introduction: weed competition is one of the major factors which limit sugar beet production in the world. weed – crop interactions are based on competition for water, nutrients and light and allelopathic effects may also play a small role. in sugar beet weed interference, all these factors are important too, but the light is of prime importance. due to the fact that a lot of weeds can grow abo...

introduction sugar beet (beta vulgaris l.) as the second most important world’s sugar source after sugarcane is one of the major industrial crops. the presence of weeds in sugar beet fields, especially at early growth stages, results in a substantial decrease in the crop yield. it is very important to efficiently eliminate weeds at early growing stages. the first step of precision weed control ...

in order to investigate the relationships of some morphological traits at the early stages of three sugar beet cultivars with final yield at varying levels of water regines, a field experiment was carried out in karaj, and mashhad, in 2001-2003.  the objective of this study was to find the relation of some morphological traits of three sugar beet genotypes (7219-p.69, bp-karaj and 7112)  during...

Defoliation produced by abiotic factors and the subsequent re-growth can reduce sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) sucrose content and final sugar yield. Field experiments were conducted during 2003 and 2004 growing seasons in the farm of Hellenic Sugar Industry SA, Larissa factory, central Greece. Three sugar beet cultivars (Rival, Europa and Corsica) were ordinary irrigated till the beginning of J...

The sugar beet monosomic addition line M14 is a unique germplasm that contains genetic materials from Beta vulgaris L. and Beta corolliflora Zoss, and shows tolerance to salt stress. Our study focuses on exploring the molecular mechanism of the salt tolerance of the sugar beet M14. In order to identify differentially expressed genes in M14 under salt stress, a subtractive cDNA library was gener...

nitrogen is one of the most important nutrients in crop production, but it's losses to the environment is harmful. the sundial model (simulation model of n dynamics in the soil) was used to quantify the cycle of n and it's losses in different production systems of sugar beet (beta vulgaris l.) in former khorasan province, east of iran. the data were collected from traditional, semi-me...

The aim of this study was to identify leaf physiological traits, which could be used in selecting high yielding genotypes among 12 sugar beet cultivars grown in two contrasting pedo-climatic environments. In the stressful Site 1 (high temperatures, low rainfall, heavy-textured soil), high yielders had cooler leaves (lower ΔT) and thus, transpired (E) and photosynthesized (A) more. Also, these c...

A patient with occupational asthma in the beet sugar processing industry is described. Symptomatology, skin testing, immunologic testing, and specific bronchoprovocation testing indicate exposure to moldy sugar beet pulp was the cause of the patient's occupational asthma. Cooperation between the treating physician and public health authorities is encouraged.
