The paper presents an ongoing research that aims at OWL ontology authoring and verbalization using a deterministic controlled natural language (CNL) that would be as natural and intuitive as possible. Moreover, we focus on a multilingual CNL interface to OWL by considering both highly analytical and highly synthetic languages (namely, English and Latvian). We propose a flexible twolevel transla...

ieved. In order to facilitate subject access interoperability a mechanism must be built that allows the different controlled vocabularies to communicate meaning, relationships, and levels of extension and intension so that different user groups using different controlled vocabularies could access collections across the network. Switching languages, the tools of controlled vocabulary compatibili...

Several state-of-the-art Generic Visual Categorization (GVC) systems are built around a vocabulary of visual terms and characterize images with one histogram of visual word counts. We propose a novel and practical approach to GVC based on a universal vocabulary, which describes the content of all the considered classes of images, and class vocabularies obtained through the adaptation of the uni...

The exploitation of clinical reports for generating alerts especially relies on the alignment of the dedicated terminologies, i.e., MedDRA (exploited in the pharmacovigilance area) and SNOMED International (exploited recently in France for encoding clinical documents). In this frame, we propose a crosslanguage approach for acquiring automatically alignments between terms from MedDRA and SNOMED ...

We describe the construction of a conditional quantum control-not (CNOT) gate from linear optical elements following the program of Knill, Laflamme and Milburn [Nature 409, 46 (2001)]. We show that the basic operation of this gate can be tested using current technology. We then simplify the scheme significantly.

The paper describes a cross-lingual document retrieval system in the medical domain that employs a controlled vocabulary (UMLS) in constructing an XMLbased intermediary representation into which queries as well as documents are mapped. The system assists in the retrieval of English and German medical scientific abstracts relevant to a German query document (electronic patient record). The modul...

Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have historically been considered the primary source of evidence to support decision-making in market access and reimbursement. However, thanks to significant progress in capturing data through computerized systems and making these data available, real-world evidence (RWE) has been increasingly considered by manufacturers and payers. Despite initiatives and r...

Despite the importance of human blood to clinical practice and research, hematology and blood transfusion data remain scattered throughout a range of disparate sources. This lack of systematization concerning the use and definition of terms poses problems for physicians and biomedical professionals. We are introducing here the Blood Ontology, an ongoing initiative designed to serve as a control...

We investigate examples of quasi-spectral triples over two-dimensional commutative sphere, which are obtained by modifying the order-one condition. We find quasi-Dirac operators and calculate the index paring with a representant of K-theory class to prove that the quasispectral triples are mutually inequivalent. MSC 2000: 58B34, 46L87, 34L40
