DOI: 10.1002/adma.201404790 plowed pile of chips formed from a dried fi lm of EGaInNPs (see Experimental Section). Note the occurrence of microcracks in the deposits in Figure 1 , which is common in dried colloidal deposits. [ 21,22 ] Furthermore, the stability of the chips indicates “solid-like” behavior of the deposit and high interparticle adhesion, both characteristic of the oxide coating e...

The solubility of luminescent quantum dots in solvents from hexane to water can be finely tuned by the choice of the countercations associated with carboxylate residues present on the nanocrystal surface. The resulting nanocrystals exhibit long term colloidal and chemical stability and maintain their photophysical properties.

The highly uniform micro- and mesoporous SiO(2) nanoparticles (40-70 nm) are hierarchically functionalized with antagonistic groups: hydrophobic (phenyl) on the internal pores and hydrophilic (methyl-phosphonate) on the external surface. Considering the large hydrophobic internal coating and the long-term colloidal stability, these systems are suitable nanocarriers by using the host-guest appro...

In this report, we focus on the synthetic challenges for nanoscale 3D fractal architectures, namely the multi-generation growth with control in both size uniformity and colloidal stability; by directing the simultaneous growth of Au and polyaniline on Au seeds, fractal nanoparticles can be achieved with a topology distinctively different from those of spheres, cubes or rods.

Colloidal solutions of ZnO-Cu nanoparticles can be used as catalysts for the reduction of carbon dioxide with hydrogen. The use of phosphinate ligands for the synthesis of the nanoparticles from organometallic precursors improves the reductive stability and catalytic activity of the system.

We report here on the segment effects of poly(ethylene oxide)-containing block copolymers (PEO-BCP) on the reduction activity for tetrachloride gold(III) ([AuCl(4)](-)), interfacial activity for gold surface, colloidal stability, and morphology of gold nanoparticles formed in aqueous solutions. In particular, the effects of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), poly(propylene oxide) (PPO), polyethylene (...

Ultraviolet–Visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy was used, in the current investigation, to explore the dispersion and stability of titania nanoparticles in an aqueous media with different types of dispersants. Hydrochloric and nitric acids as well as ammonia were used to determine the stability of the suspension in the acidic region (pH=2.5) and basic area (pH=9.5), respectively. In addition, for mea...

The hydration interaction is responsible for the colloidal stability observed in protein-coated particles at high ionic strengths. The origin of this non-DLVO interaction is related not only to the local structure of the water molecules located at the surface but also to the structure of those molecules involved in the hydration of the ions that surround the colloidal particles. Ruckenstein and...
