We describe herein the isolation of Tilletiopsis minor from a subcutaneous cyst of a 70-year-old immunocompromised male. The diagnosis was based on repeated isolation of the fungus, observation of hyphal elements in tissue sections, the ability of the mold to grow at or near body temperature, and the achievement of a complete cure following surgery and antifungal therapy.
Taxonomic studies on a new species, Kitasatosporia cystarginea are presented. Previously, we reported that epigallocatechin 3-O-gallate (EGCg) has growth-inhibitory effect on clinical isolates of Candida species. In this study, we investigated the antifungal activity of EGCg and antifungal agents against thirty-five of dermatophytes clinically isolated by the international guidelines (M38-A2). All isolates exhibited good susceptibility to EGCg (MIC₅₀, 2-4 μg/mL, MIC₉₀, 4...
Sixteen clinical fungal isolates were tested for antibiotic susceptibility by using disks impregnated with growth medium and antibiotic. The procedure was easier to perform, less time consuming, and as reliable as other currently available methods.
