Two-phase locking (2PL) is the concurrency control mechanism that is used in most commercial database systems. In 2PL, for a transaction to access a data item, it has to hold the appropriate lock (read or write) on the data item by issuing a lock request. While the way transactions set their lock requests and the way the requests are granted would certainly affect a system’s performance, such a...

A novel frequency-to-voltage converter based phase-locked loop (PLL) is proposed to overcome the inability of a frequency-locked lock phase. The dual-loop PLL adds variable phase-locking capability, such that phase locking angle can vary from 0–360°. additional be applied in data communication form modulation. design targeted for 0.5-?m CMOS process. generates 480 MHz clock reference 15 MHz. In...

We have demonstrated a Brillouin fiber-optic gyro that utilizes push-pull phase modulation in the ring cavity to suppress frequency locking. This in-line modulation allows an all-fiber system with optical reciprocity. A tenfold reduction of the width of the lock-in range is observed experimentally.

A new scheme for coherently connecting optical frequencies in a 3:1 ratio has been demonstrated. To phase lock a Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm with a CO overtone laser at 3192 nm, we generated their difference frequency in RbTiOAsO(4) (RTA) and beat it against the second harmonic of 3192 nm that was generated in AgGaSe(2).

The 23rd and 31st harmonics of a microwave signal generated in a novel THz balanced Schottky diode mixer were used as a frequency stable reference source to phase lock solid-nitrogen-cooled 2.324 and 2.959 THz quantum cascade lasers. Hertz-level frequency stability was achieved, which was maintained for several hours.

Through the utilization of index-matched GaAs immersion lens techniques, we demonstrate a record extinction (12%) of a far-field focused laser beam by a single InAs/GaAs quantum dot. This contrast level enables us to report for the first time resonant laser transmission spectroscopy on a single InAs/GaAs quantum dot without the need for phase-sensitive lock-in detection.

Pulsed NQR has been used to get information about the two phase transitions (PT) in 4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone. The measurements of the NQR spectrum and spin-lattice relaxation suggest that the PT's correspond to a normal-incommensurate and to the lock-in of a commensurate structure at lower temperature. Strong hysteresis has been observed, which could be assigned to memory effects produced by d...

This paper introduces a new-type Phase-Frequency Detector (PFD) for Charge-Pump based Phase-Looked-loops (CPPLLs). Dead zone in a phase-frequency detector reduces the input detection range and make worse cycle slips. This brief analyzes the blind zone in latch-based PFDs and proposes a technique that removes the blind zone caused by the pre-charge time of the internal nodes. With the proposed t...

We present results for an heterodyne optical phase-lock loop (OPLL), monolithically integrated on InP with external phase detector and loop filter, which phase locks the integrated laser to an external source, for offset frequencies tuneable between 0.6 GHz and 6.1 GHz. The integrated semiconductor laser emits at 1553 nm with 1.1 MHz linewidth, while the external laser has a linewidth less than...
