A Klebsiella pneumoniae epidemic strain that coproduced carbapenemase KPC-2 (K. pneumoniae carbapenemase 2) and 16S rRNA methylase ArmA has emerged in Poland. Four nonduplicate isolates from patients in a hospital in Warsaw, Poland, were found to carry the bla(KPC-2) and armA genes on ca. 50-kb and 90-kb plasmids, respectively. Tn4401 with a 100-bp deletion in the variable region was detected i...
b ackground : one of the main mechanisms of resistance to carbapenems is potential of klebsiella pneumoniae to produce k . pneumoniae carbapenemase (kpc). kpc is an important type of carbapenemase, which can hydrolyze carbapenems and other beta-lactam antibiotics. modified hodge test (mht) and use of boronic acid as a kpc inhibitor are two types of phenotypic methods, which are use...
conclusions epidemiological and regional evaluation of mbl-producing p. aeruginosa through simple and inexpensive methods should be considered for effective treatment of carbapenem-resistant p. aeruginosa infections. results amongst all the p. aeruginosa isolates, 58.7% were resistant to imipenem while 31.8%, 13.5% and 74.4% were resistant to meropenem, doripenem and ertapenem, respectively. am...
This manual provides guidance for reporting antimicrobial resistance under the framework of Directive 2003/99/EC and Commission Implementing Decision 2013/652/EU in food-producing animalsand foodstuffs derived thereof. The objective is to harmonise streamline made by Member States ensure that data collected are relevant easy analyse at European Union level. Detailed guidelines provided text for...
b ackground : acinetobacter baumannii , is an important opportunistic pathogens responsible for nosocomial infections. the aim of this experiment was to determine prevalence of class i integron in a. baumannii strains isolated from burn patients in mottahari hospital and the drug susceptibility pattern. methods : there were 69 acinetobacter isolates, 68 (98.5%) were i...
conclusions the present study showed that bla oxa-23-like was the most frequent carbapenemase identified among carbapenem-resistant a. baumannii isolated in tehran hospitals. evaluation of antibiotic resistance genes in a. baumannii, is necessary to control further dissemination of these antibiotic resistant genes. results results showed that 123 of 131 (93.89%) acinetobacter species, possessed...
The spread of carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (CPKP) is a challenging public health threat. Early identification and isolation of infected patients and carriers are key measures of control. This study describes a CPKP screening strategy in a tertiary Italian hospital. During the five-month study period, 1687 patients were screened by rectal swabs. Of these, 65 (3.9%) tested positi...
Here we present the complete genome sequence of Enterobacter cloacae 704SK10, a Swiss wastewater isolate encoding an OXA-48 carbapenemase. Assembly resulted in closed sequences of the 4,876,946-bp chromosome, a 111,184-bp IncF plasmid, and an OXA-48-encoding IncL plasmid (63,458 bp) nearly identical to the previously described plasmid pOXA-48.
Four Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from children hospitalized over 10 months in an intensive care unit in a children's teaching hospital in Poland were analyzed. All of the isolates belonged to a single pulsotype and sequence type (ST) 11, and produced the KPC-2 carbapenemase and extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) CTX-M-15. They were resistant to a variety of antimicrobials, and their β-lact...
The emergence and spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae is an important and very concerning problem. There is an urgent need of new antibimicrobials for treating these infections. Currently there are some options in the pipeline. Several new beta-lactamase and carbapenemase inhibitors as avibactam and MK-7655, combined with old or new betalactams are a very interesting option. So...
