Ag nanowires are prepared as templates by a polyol reduction process. Then Ag nanotubes coated with a thin layer of Pd are synthesized through sequential reduction accompanied with the galvanic displacement reaction. The products show a hollow core-shell nanotubular structure, as demonstrated by detailed characterizations. The Ag@Pd can significantly improve the electrocatalytic activity toward...

A selenolate-protected Ag-Pd alloy cluster was synthesized using a one-pot solution-phase route. The crude product upon chromatographic analyses under optimized conditions gave three distinct clusters with unique optical features. One of these exhibits a molecular peak centered at m/z 2839, in its negative ion mass spectrum assigned to Ag5Pd4(SePh)12(-), having an exact match with the correspon...

Alloying palladium (Pd) with other transition metals at the nanoscale has become an important pathway for preparation of low-cost, highly active and stable catalysts. However, the lack of understanding of how the alloying phase state, chemical composition and atomic-scale structure of the alloys at the nanoscale influence their catalytic activity impedes the rational design of Pd-nanoalloy cata...

In this paper, we show that PtAu and PdAu random alloy dendrimer-encapsulated nanoparticles with an average size of ∼1.6 nm have different catalytic activity trends for allyl alcohol hydrogenation. Specifically, PtAu nanoparticles exhibit a linear increase in activity with increasing Pt content, whereas PdAu dendrimer-encapsulated nanoparticles show a maximum activity at a Pd content of ∼60%. B...

Polyhedral noble-metal nanocrystals have received much attention and wide applications as electrical and optical devices as well as catalysts. In this work, a straightforward and effective hydrothermal route for the controllable synthesis of the high-quality Pd-Ag alloy polyhedrons with uniform size is presented. The morphology, composition and structure of the Pd-Ag alloy polyhedrons are fully...

Combining in vacuo deposition of ultrathin ionic liquid (UTIL) films with angle-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ARXPS), we demonstrate that by deposition of submonolayer amounts of Pd onto Au(111) the initial growth mode of the ionic liquid (IL) 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([C2C1Im][OTf]) can be switched from three-dimensional (3D) to two-dimensional (2D) gr...

Nanoporous Pd (np-Pd) was prepared by co-sputtering Pd-Ni alloy films onto Si substrates, followed by chemical dealloying with sulfuric acid. X-ray diffractometry and chemical analysis were used to track the extent of dealloying. The np-Pd structure was changed from particle-like to sponge-like by diluting the sulfuric acid etchant. Using suitable precursor alloy composition and dealloying cond...

The distance between surface Pd atoms has been shown to control the catalytic formation of vinyl acetate from ethylene and acetic acid by AuPd catalysts. Here, we use the bulk alloy's thermodynamic properties, as well as the surface lattice spacing of a AuPd(100) alloy single-crystal model catalyst to control and optimize the concentration of the active site (Pd atom pairs at a specific Pd-Pd d...

We have prepared supported gold, palladium and gold–palladium bimetallic catalysts by the physical mixing of the acetate salts of the metals followed by a simple heat treatment. The use of the acetates as the metal precursor eliminates chloride from the catalyst preparation step. Extensive characterisation shows the formation of bimetallic alloy particles. These catalysts are extremely active f...
