Introduction: Hepatic involvement is a common feature in dengue fever, which prolongs the clinical course of this selflimiting viral infection and constitutes assign of worse prognosis, Vomiting and abdominal pain in the early stages point towards hepatic dysfunction. Various studies have shown that in all those patients who develop complications like dengue haemorrhagic fever, dengue shock syn...

We performed a laparoscopy-assisted hepatectomy on a 52-year-old woman with a large hepatic cavernous hemangioma (longest diameter, 8.5 cm). With the use of Pringle's maneuver, the left lateral segment of the liver was resected with a Cavitron ultrasonic surgical aspirator (CUSA) while lifting the abdominal wall. Postoperative hepatic dysfunction was mild and transient, resolving spontaneously ...

In mammals, proper storage and distribution of lipids in and between tissues is essential for the maintenance of energy homeostasis. Here, we show that tumour growth triggers hepatic metabolic dysfunction as part of the cancer cachectic phenotype, particularly by reduced hepatic very-low-density-lipoprotein (VLDL) secretion and hypobetalipoproteinemia. As a molecular cachexia output pathway, he...

We report a case of 61-yr-old man with stable psoriasis who progressively developed generalized pustular eruption, erythroderma, fever, and hepatic dysfunction following oral terbinafine. Skin biopsy was compatible with pustular psoriasis. After discontinuation of terbinafine and initiating topical corticosteroid and calcipotriol combination with narrow band ultraviolet B therapy, patient's con...

Free radicals are highly reactive substances produced continuously during metabolic processes. They participate mainly in physiological events such as the immune response, metabolism of unsaturated fatty acids, and inflammatory reaction. The balance between free radicals and antioxidants is disrupted in many diseases. This disruption may be attributed to a number of factors such as the inabilit...

A 12 year old boy with intractable epilepsy developed fatty infiltration of the liver after three years' treatment on the medium chain triglyceride (MCT) diet. This was not associated with any hepatic dysfunction and resolved after discontinuing the diet. Three of four other patients on the same diet had evidence of hepatic steatosis.

Mild hepatic dysfunction in dengue haemorrhagic fever is not unusual. However, acute liver failure (ALF) is rare. When present, its management according to most current guidelines is supportive and carries a poor prognosis. We present a patient with dengue haemorrhagic fever complicated acute liver failure and hepatic encephalopathy who was successfully treated with N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) leadi...
