The triad of the Klippel-Feil anomaly, Duane's retraction syndrome, and deaf-mutism was described by Wildervanck (1960) as the cervico-oculoacusticus syndrome. The Klippel-Feil anomaly essentially comprises a variety of bony deformities of the cervical spine, usually involving fusion, which appear clinically as a short neck with a limited range of movements of the head and neck and a low poster...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Recently, the McDonald criteria for the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) have been revised, with the aims to diagnose earlier and to simplify the use of brain MRI. To validate the 2010 revised criteria they were applied to a cohort of patients with clinically isolated syndromes (CIS). METHODS In all, 178 CIS patients were followed from onset. Test characteristics we...
CRITICALCARENURSE Vol 26, No. 3, JUNE 2006 43 sion of the bloodstream by micro organisms. However, a subset of critically ill patients have features characteristic of sepsis despite blood cultures that are repeatedly negative for microorganisms and no identified source of bacterial, fungal, or viral infection. Trauma, surgery, burns, and illnesses such as cancer and pneumonia can trigger the on...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), reduced magnetization transfer ratios (MTRs) have been reported in white matter that appears normal on studies obtained with conventional imaging techniques. The stage in the disease when this first becomes detectable is unclear. The purpose of this study was to measure the MTR of normal-appearing white matter (NAWM) and lesions i...
In patients who present with a clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), whose features are suggestive of multiple sclerosis (MS), fulfilling McDonald 2010 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) criteria for dissemination in space (DIS) and dissemination in time (DIT) enables a diagnosis of MS. While ⩾1 periventricular lesion is included in the 2010 DIS criteria, earlier McDonald criteria required ⩾3 periv...
A 12-year-old girl presented with esotropia and face turn since birth. Ocular motility examination showed restricted abduction associated with down shoot and retraction on attempted abduction characteristic of inverse Duane's retraction syndrome. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the very few reported cases of congenital inverse Duane's retraction syndrome.
(Cell Reports 33, 108458-1–108458-7.e1–e3; December 8, 2020) In the originally published version of this paper, Figure 1A contained header labels for Space and Ground twins that were switched in final editing. The figure has been corrected now appears with paper online. authors regret error, these changes have no effect on rest data manuscript. addition, following author names corrected, their ...
PURPOSE To describe the clinical features of Duane's retraction syndrome (DRS) in Korean patients. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the 78 DRS cases that presented to our department between 1995 and 2004. The clinical features investigated included sex distribution, laterality, type of presentation, deviation in primary position, anomalous vertical movements, face turn, amblyopia and aniso...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The extent of abnormalities on T2-weighted MR images of the brain of patients with clinically isolated syndromes (CIS) suggestive of multiple sclerosis (MS) at presentation is associated with an increased risk of developing clinically definite MS (CDMS). We evaluated whether subtle changes outside T2-visible lesions are present in the brain of these patients and whether t...
