In this study, we prepared oxizolidines through 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)-propane (DPPP)-catalyzed mixed double-Michael reactions of β-amino alcohols with electron-deficient acetylenes. These reactions are very suitable for the diversity-oriented parallel syntheses of oxizolidines because: (i) they are performed under mild metal-free conditions and (ii) the products are isolated without compli...
A series of Schiff base ligands were synthesized from (1R)-camphor. Under the optimal conditions, (+)-SBAIB-a, 10 was found to be an excellent catalyst for the enantioselective addition of phenylacetylene to various aldehydes without utilizing either achiral additives or Ti(O(i)Pr)(4). This approach yielded (R)-propargylic alcohols in extremely high yields (up to 99%) and excellent enantioselec...
Series of concentrations of 15 aliphatic alcohols were presented in 0.1 M sucrose to the tarsi of antennectomized-labellectomized blowflies (Phormia regina Meigen). With the pri-n-alcohols the mean concentrations at rejection formed a Traube series. When the rejection thresholds for all the alcohols tested were compared with their boiling points, vapor pressures, molecular surface areas) molecu...
A formal anti-Markovnikov hydroamination of allylic alcohols using a Ru catalyst via tandem oxidation/1,4-conjugate addition/1,2-reduction was developed. Thus, the reaction of allylic alcohols with amines was performed in the presence of the catalyst generated from RuClH(CO)(PPh3)3 and 2,6-bis(n-butyliminomethyl)pyridine in situ to afford the corresponding γ-amino alcohols efficiently.
A superhydrophobic catalyst was prepared by immobilizing Pt nanoparticles on superhydrophobic organic-inorganic hybrid silicas, which showed high activity and selectivity in the oxidation of aliphatic alcohols to carboxylic acids.
Gold(I)-catalysed direct allylic etherifications have been successfully carried out with chirality transfer to yield enantioenriched, γ-substituted secondary allylic ethers. Our investigations include a full substrate-scope screen to ascertain substituent effects on the regioselectivity, stereoselectivity and efficiency of chirality transfer, as well as control experiments to elucidate the mech...
Diaryliodonium salts are demonstrated as efficient arylating agents of aliphatic alcohols under metal-free conditions. The reaction proceeds at room temperature within 90 min to give alkyl aryl ethers in good to excellent yields. Aryl groups with electron-withdrawing substituents are transferred most efficiently, and unsymmetric iodonium salts give chemoselective arylations. The methodology has...
Graphite oxide as a heterogeneous and recyclable solid acid catalyzed a simple and efficient method for the synthesis of β -amino alcohols by ring opening of epoxides with amines. This method is effective with various aromatic and aliphatic amines under solvent-free conditions. The corresponding β -amino alcohols are obtained in high yields (56%–95%) and short reaction times (15–30 min) with hi...
The iodination of proteins remains a useful tool in biochemistry for radiolabelling. However, chemical or enzymatic iodination is difficult to control and can give deleterious polyiodination. Previously, we have shown that electrooxidation with nitrite is a rapid method for the selective nitration of tyrosine residues in proteins. In principle, it should be possible to substitute a number of el...
Urea, the white gold: The efficient synthesis of tertiary and secondary amines is achieved by heterogeneous gold-catalyzed direct amination of stoichiometric alcohols with urea in good to excellent yields. Via a hydrogen autotransfer pathway, the reactions of primary alcohols with urea give tertiary amines exclusively, while secondary alcohols selectively afford secondary amines.
