Abaqus is often applied to solve geomechanical boundary value problems. Several Abaqus built-in features enable a wide range of simulating such problems. For complex problems Abaqus can be extended via user subroutines. Several extensions for soil mechanics purposes are discussed and corresponding case studies are presented.
Simply supported steel beams with rectangular hollow section (RHS) are investigated, taking into account large twist and cross-sections distortions. A closed-form expression for the critical value of external couple inducing lateral torsional buckling is found; homotopy perturbation method (HPM) used to investigate post-buckling non-linear path. The linear paths given by HPM compared those of: ...
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is an engineered composite that finding increasing structural application in construction today. Analysis of the behavior CLT can be carried out by various analytical and numerical methods. Due to complex CLT, use modelling such as finite element method (FEM) offers a convenient approach analysis. In this paper, simulation elastic 1-way 2-way spanning panels using F...
In Japan, excavated soils generated from construction sites in urban areas are being disposed tolandfill as industrial waste. With limited land big cities, the landfill will be more and scarceand overload state next few years. Therefore, effective use of soil is anurgent issue. Liquefied Stabilized Soil (LSS) one methods using withconstruction works, has become popular Japan. Numerous previous ...
Despite the fact that iterative solution techniques are recently gaining recognition among practitioners and finding their way into commercial software arena, the current state of the art in iterative methods remains unsatisfactory in many respects. Users of large production codes such as ANSYS, NASTRAN, ALGOR, SDRC, EMRC and ANSYS often observe many “bad” cases resulting from poorly conditione...
The most prominent feature of sheet material forming process is an elastic recovery phenomenon during unloading which leads to springback and side wall curl. Therefore evaluation of springback and side wall curl is mandatory for production of precise products. In this paper, the effects of some parameters such as friction coefficient, sheet thickness, yield strength of sheet and blank-holder fo...
Thermal engineering has long been left out of the concurrent engineering environment dominated by CAD (computer aided design) and FEM (finite element method) software. Current tools attempt to force the thermal design process into an environment primarily created to support structural analysis, which results in inappropriate thermal models. As a result, many thermal engineers either build model...
In this work a novel method for the analysis with trimmed CAD surfaces is presented. The method involves an additional mapping step and the attraction stems from its simplicity and ease of implementation into existing Finite Element (FEM) or Boundary Element (BEM) software. The method is first verified with classical test examples in structural mechanics. Then two practical applications are pre...
