Charged scalar particles introduced in some extensions of the standard model can induce τ leptonic decay at tree level. We find that with some charged SU(2)-singlet scalar particles, like ones introduced in Zee-type models, τ leptonic decay width is always smaller than what is predicted by the standard model, therefore they may offer a natural solution to τ decay puzzle. To be more specific, we...

We update the bounds on fermions with electric charge e and mass m . For m . me we find 10−15 . < 1 is excluded by laboratory experiments, astrophysics and cosmology. For larger masses, the limits are less restrictive and depend on m . For milli-charged neutrinos, the limits are stronger, especially if the different flavors mix as suggested by current experimental evidence.

Dispersing chemicals are often used to improve the properties of concrete. In the cement field these chemicals are known as superplasticizers. Basically, the superplasticizers can be divided in to two classes: mainly negatively charged ionic and mainly non-ionic. The backbones of both types of superplasticizers are hydrophobic aliphatic and/or aromatic chains. To function as superplasticizers, ...

Background and Objectives: Cyclone is one of the most utilized dust collectors for airborne particles control. It separates particles from airflow by centrifugal force. However, it is not effective in collecting very fine particles smaller than 10 μm in diameter. The aim of this study was to assess the performance of charging particles on cyclone efficiency in collecting particles smaller than ...

Radioactive aerosols differ physically from non-radioactive aerosols by the appreciable charge that they may carry. This arises from a competition between the charge generated by the radioactive decays occurring within each aerosol and the subsequent diffusion of the ions formed back onto the particle. At high levels of activity, the particles may self-discharge, at low and intermediate activit...

A measurement of the underlying activity in scattering processes with p T scale in the GeV region is performed in proton–proton collisions at √ s = 0.9 TeV, using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. Charged particle production is studied with reference to the direction of a leading object, either a charged particle or a set of charged particles forming a jet. Predictions of several...

We have investigated behaviors of positively-charged fine particles in a cross-sheath between magnetized double plasmas with different potentials separated vertically by the horizontal magnetic field. In the sheath the charges on the particles become positive, because ion current flowing from a lower high-potential plasma surpasses electron current coming across the magnetic filed from an upper...

The preliminary NA49 results on the energy dependence of transverse momentum fluctuations over the whole Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) energy range exhibit an unexpected effect. The ΦpT fluctuation measure used by the NA49 experiment manifests a different behavior for different charge combinations. Whereas the ΦpT is consistent with zero and independent of energy for negatively charged particl...

Results from the multiplicity distributions of inclusive photons and charged particles, scaling of particle multiplicities, event-by-event multiplicity fluctuations, and chargedneutral fluctuations in 158·A GeV Pb+Pb collisions are presented and discussed. A scaling of charged particle multiplicity as N part and photons as N 1.12±0.03 part have been observed, indicating violation of naive wound...

Radiative corrections to the decay rate of charged fermions caused by the presence of a thermal bath of photons are calculated in the limit when temperatures are below the masses of all charged particles involved. The cancellation of finite-temperature infrared divergences in the decay rate is described in detail. Temperature-dependent radiative corrections to a two-body decay of a hypothetical...
