A catalytic enantioselective and regiodivergent arylation of alkenes is described. Chiral copper(II)bisoxazoline complexes catalyze the addition of diaryliodonium salts to allylic amides in excellent ee. Moreover, the arylation can be controlled by the electronic nature of the diaryliodonium salt enabling the preparation of nonracemic diaryloxazines or β,β'-diaryl enamides.

Reaction of 2-thiocarbamoyl thiazolium salts with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate proceeded via a tandem [3+2] cycloaddition and a unprecedented ring transformation to produce functionalized thieno[2,3-b]pyrazine derivatives in good to excellent yields.

Arylsulfinyl groups direct the metal-free, regiospecific, nucleophilic ortho-allylation of pyrroles and pyrazoles. Mechanistic studies support the intermediacy of allylsulfonium salts that undergo facile thio-Claisen rearrangement onto the heterocyclic ring, giving products of coupling. The strategy has been adapted to allow regiospecific propargylation of the heterocyclic substrates.

We report the synthesis and properties of eight new tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives containing two different functionalities, prepared with the aim of obtaining stable organic materials. The four acetoxyphenyl- and four hydroxyphenyl TTFs were synthesized via Wittig-type condensations. The electrochemical properties of these redox-active molecules were studied by cyclic voltammetry. Charge...

In the presence of large excesses of borohydride salts, gold monolayer protected-clusters can be grown to larger sizes simply by controlling the amount of reducing agent added to smaller clusters. In addition, gold monolayer clusters can be used as catalysts for reduction reactions by sodium borohydride; results suggest such catalysts have sterically constrained active sites.

A method of estimating glutamic acid is described, based on its dehydrogenation by glutamate dehydrogenase coupled, by means of N-methylphenazine methosulphate, to the reduction of tetrazolium salts. The method is suitable for the estimation of 0-0.3mumole of glutamic acid. The response is linear, but not stoicheiometric: possible reasons for this are discussed. If suitable precautions are take...

The enantioselective α-arylation of aldehydes has been accomplished using diaryliodonium salts and a combination of copper and organic catalysts. These mild catalytic conditions provide a new strategy for the enantioselective construction and retention of enolizable α-formyl benzylic stereocenters, a valuable synthon for the production of medicinal agents. As one example, this new asymmetric pr...

It is known that physical properties of pyridinium salts can be modulated by their chemical characteristics. Owing to their broad range of applications in biology, biotechnology and chemical research, the design and synthesis of a series of 2,4,6-triarylpyridinium salts with modified structural backbone have been carried out. The main strands of work have included modifications on pyrylium cati...

Triarylsulfonium hexafluorophosphate salts were shown to be effective catalysts for the ring-opening polymerisation of various cyclic monomers under UV irradiation. A dual basic/acidic catalytic system demonstrated the potential for UV-triggered formation of poly(δ-valerolactone)-b-poly(L-lactide)-b-poly(δ-valerolactone) in a 'one-pot' reaction.

Tubular microporous organic networks bearing imidazolium salts (T-IM) were prepared by Sonogashira coupling of tetrakis(4-ethynylphenyl)methane and diiodoimidazolium salts, which showed promising catalytic activities in heterogeneous conversion of CO(2) into cyclic carbonates.
