In this letter, we propose a novel neuro-inspired low-resolution online unsupervised learning rule to train the reservoir or liquid of liquid state machines. The liquid is a sparsely interconnected huge recurrent network of spiking neurons. The proposed learning rule is inspired from structural plasticity and trains the liquid through formating and eliminating synaptic connections. Hence, the l...

Over the past two decades synchrotron facilities dedicated to the generation of xrays for study of atoms, molecules and condensed matter have proliferated in Europe, Asia and the United States. As a result of the special properties of x-rays produced by these machines, there has been an enormous growth in the experimental possibilities. In this work we will demonstrate how these special propert...

The activity of lysozyme over a Micrococcus lysodeikticus cell suspension increased to 13% of the initial value in the presence of 1% v/v ammonium-based ionic liquids after deactivation with 4.0 M urea. This increase in activity reflects the refolding ability of the ionic liquids against the denaturation effects of urea on lysozyme.

Data for viscosity vs. water content for three hydrophobic room-temperature ionic liquids show that their viscosities are strongly dependent on the amount of dissolved water.

We report a family of biocompatible ionic liquids (ILs) which are able to dissolve significant amounts of proteins such as cytochrome c and in which ATR-FTIR spectroscopy results show retention of secondary structure to extreme temperatures.

Electrolyte solutions with high concentrations of ions are prevalent in biological systems and energy storage technologies. Nevertheless, the high interaction free energy and long-range nature of electrostatic interactions makes the development of a general conceptual picture of concentrated electrolytes a significant challenge. In this work, we study ionic liquids, single-component liquids com...

Ionic liquids are novel solvents of interest as greener alternatives to conventional organic solvents aimed at facilitating sustainable chemistry. As a consequence of their unusual physical properties, reusability, and eco-friendly nature, ionic liquids have attracted the attention of organic chemists. Numerous reports have revealed that many catalysts and reagents were supported in the ionic l...

Liquids can splash, squirt, gush, slosh, soak, drip, drain, trickle, pool, and be poured–complex behaviors that we can easily distinguish, imagine, describe, and, crucially, predict, despite tremendous diversity among different liquids’ material and dynamical characteristics. This proficiency suggests the brain has a sophisticated cognitive mechanism for reasoning about liquids, yet to date the...

Separation of benzene and cyclohexane is one of the most important processes in the petrochemical industry. However, due to their close boiling points and azeotrope formation, it is difficult to separate cyclohexane and benzene by conventional distillation processes. In this work, five thiocynate-based ionic liquids were investigated as solvent for separation of benzene and cyclohexane using ex...
