A variety of arylhydrazonopyridinones were prepared via heating cyanoacetamides with ethyl acetoacetate in absence of solvent under reflux conventionally or ultrasound irradiation or in a microwave oven. The formed products 5 and 6 could be readily converted to thienopyridones. Attempted addition of the latter to electron poor olefins afforded only arylhydrazonopyridinones.

The influence of microwave treatment on the surface roughness, hydrophobicity, and chemical composition of galena was studied. The pure galena specimens and purified galena concentrate were used in this work. A conventional multi-modal oven (with a frequency of 2.45 GHz and a maximum power of 900 W) was used to conduct the experiments. The results obtained from the atomic-force microscopy analy...

1. Introduction A multitude of commercial devices transmit in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz ISM band, and these devices are likely to interfere with each other. These effects are compounded in highly populated metropolitan areas with large numbers of microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, cord-less phones, wireless game controllers, and other devices which occupy the ISM band. This contributes to an ever...

The utility of microwave irradiation to accelerate the onset of equilibrium and improve ELISA performance was examined using ELISAs for the detection of the plant toxin ricin and gliadin. The ricin ELISA normally requires several one hour incubations at 37 °C, a total assay time of approximately five hours, and employs a complex buffer containing PBS, Tween-20®, and non-fat milk. Different ener...

The conventional microwave oven with the 2.45 GHz “cooker” magnetron producing output microwave power of 0.7-1.0 kW has become de-facto one of the “must-have” from the long line of different kitchen appliances available for everyday use in every single US home or office. A problem has arisen, however, during the last 10 years with the rise of numerous wireless systems, most notable of which is ...

Microwaves have been widely used in the treatment of materials, such as heating, drying, and sterilization. However, the heating in the commonly used microwave applicators is usually uneven. In this paper, a novel multi-material turntable structure is creatively proposed to improve the temperature uniformity in microwave ovens. Three customized turntables consisting of polyethylene (PE) and alu...

Background Hydro-distillation (HD) method is a traditional technique which is used in most industrial companies. Microwave-assisted Hydro-distillation (MAHD) is an advanced HD technique utilizing a microwave oven in the extraction process. Methods In this research, MAHD of essential oils from the aerial parts (leaves) of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) was studied and the results were co...

This paper presents the development of a PC-based microwave five-port reflectometer for the determination of moisture content in oil palm fruits. The reflectometer was designed to measure both the magnitude and phase of the reflection coefficient of any passive microwave device. The stand-alone reflectometer consists of a PC, a microwave source, diode detectors and an analog to digital converte...

The objective of this study was to determine the drying behavior of 2-phase olive mill waste (2POMW) under isothermal microwave-convection drying conditions. 2POMW samples were dried in a thin layer in a variable-power pilot microwave oven with impinging air, using a feedback controller to maintain sample temperature at one of four levels. Moisture loss and shrinkage of the samples were recorde...

We developed a rapid immunohistochemical method using a microwave oven in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections from normal and pathological tissues. The strongest immunoreactivity was obtained for actin, Ca 125, CEA, pan-cytokeratin, chromogranin A, EMA, GFAP, thyroglobulin, kappa and lambda chains. In control tissues, processed with conventional immunocytochemical procedure, the reactivi...
