In this study, calcium phosphate nanoparticles with two phases, fluorapatite (FA; Ca(10)(PO(4))(6)F(2)) and hydroxyapatite (HA; Ca(10)(PO(4))(6)(OH)(2)), were prepared using the solgel method. Ethyl phosphate, hydrated calcium nitrate, and ammonium fluoride were used, respectively, as P, Ca, and F precursors with a Ca:P ratio of 1:72. Powders obtained from the sol-gel process were studied after...

The effect of bacterial cellulose (BC) on the freeze-thaw stability of rice starch gels during 5 freeze-thaw cycles were investigated, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), rapid visco analyzer (RVA), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and textural analyzer (TA). SEM micrographs of freeze-thaw gels showed that smaller pore size and a thicker surrounding matr...

Nanocomposite coatings of TiN/a-C were prepared on tool steel substrates using a multitarget reactive DC magnetron sputtering process at various TiN layer thicknesses (0.6–2.8 nm). The a-C layer thickness was approximately 0.45 nm. Structural characterisation of the coatings was done by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Incorporation of an a-C phase in TiN matrix reduced crystallite size of the coatings...

We report synthesis of ZrO₂ nanoparticles (NPs) using microwave assisted chemical method at 80°C temperature. Synthesized ZrO₂ NPs were calcinated at 400°C under air atmosphere and characterized using FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, and EDS for their formation, structure, morphology, size, and elemental composition. XRD results revealed the formation of mixed phase monoclinic and tetragonal ZrO₂ phas...

We report a facile synthesis of single-phase, nanocrystalline macroporous chromium nitride and chromium titanium nitride with an inverse opal morphology. The material is characterized using XRD, SEM, HR-TEM/STEM, TGA and XPS. Interconversion of macroporous CrN to Cr2O3 and back to CrN while retaining the inverse opal morphology is also demonstrated.

Tungsten trioxide microspheres of 2–4 m diameter have been prepared by controlled oxidation of tungsten carbide microspheres. These microspheres are characterized by XRD, SEM, and HRTEM. The microspheres are made of WO3 nanoparticles with an average diameter of around 15 nm. Platinum supported on these WO3 microspheres exhibits higher and stable electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation ...

In this work, nanostructured CdO films with different coumarin contents in the growth solution were fabricated on glass substrates by the SILAR method. The effects of coumarin content in the bath on optical, structural and morphological properties were studied by means of (UV–vis) spectrophotometer, SEM and XRD analysis. The analysis showed that the band gaps, surface morphologies and XRD peak ...

Chemical reduction technique was used to synthesize nickel powder using hydrazine hydrate as reducing agent, nickel chloride hexahydrate as precursor and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as capping agent in ethylene glycol medium. Experiments were carried out with mole ratios 13:1 and 20:1 of hydrazine to nickel chloride hexahydrate by keeping the amounts of ethylene glycol and NaOH as constant. Vari...

Micro-Raman spectroscopy has been used to follow the reaction of free lime (CaO) exposed for 24h to moist air at 80 °C under conditions of different relative humidities (10-80% RH). X-ray diffraction and SEM imaging were applied as complementary techniques. The conversion of lime to calcium hydroxide and its subsequent carbonation to various calcium carbonate polymorphs was found to strongly de...
