A new antibiotic SF-2185 was found active against plant pathogen, particularly the causal organisms of cucumber downy mildew and rice blast. The producing organism, strain SF-2185, is a novel actinomycete and has been identified as Dactylosporangium aurantiacum subsp. gifuense.

A novel actinomycete strain, designated YIM 30243T, was isolated from a soil sample in Yunnan Province, China. Based on the results of phenotypic and genotypic characteristics, strain YIM 30243T should be assigned to a new species of the genus Nocardia, for which the name Nocardia alba sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM 30243T (= CCTCC AA001030T = DSM 44684T).

A mutualist actinomycete of the southern pine beetle, Dendroctonus frontalis, produces a polyene peroxide with pronounced antifungal activity. Its structure, absolute configuration, and biological activity were determined by spectral analysis, chemical modification followed by the modified Mosher method, and growth inhibitory assays, respectively.

Streptomyces sp. GKU 895 is an endophytic actinomycete isolated from the roots of sugarcane. GKU 895 has a genome of 8.3 Mbp and the genome exhibits adaptations related to plant growth-promoting activity. It also has extensive specialized metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters apparent in its genome.

We announce the availability of the genome sequence of Streptomyces viridosporus strain T7A ATCC 39115, a plant biomass-degrading actinomycete. This bacterium is of special interest because of its capacity to degrade lignin, an underutilized component of plants in the context of bioenergy. It has a full complement of genes for plant biomass catabolism.

The killer effect of 36 Hansenula, Pichia, Saccharomyces, and Candida species on 26 hyphomycetes isolates, 1 isolate of the achlorophyllous microorganism Prototheca, 4 isolates of the lipophilic yeast Malassezia, 1 isolate of the aerobic actinomycete Nocardia, and 19 isolates of bacteria was studied. The killer phenomenon, which was previously considered to be restricted to yeasts, was found to...

New antibiotics named reveromycins A, B, C and D were isolated as inhibitors of mitogenic activity induced by epidermal growth factor (EGF) in a mouse epidermal keratinocyte. Reveromycins were produced by a soil actinomycete (strain SN-593) which belongs to the genus Streptomyces.
