Recent findings of gene fusions in carcinomas recapitulate the discovery of chromosomal abnormalities in leukemias and sarcomas decades ago. A recurring feature of carcinoma gene fusions, in contrast to those in hematopoietic and mesenchymal malignancies, is that they result in aberrant cell signaling.
