A large number of studies has been published proposing a range of vanadium containing compounds as potential new anti-diabetic drugs due to the observed insulin mimetic function of V(IV) complexes. Vanadium uptake and distribution within the body have been investigated in animal models by determination of total vanadium concentrations. Phase I and phase IIa human clinical trials have been compl...

fuel oil used in power plants contain metal impurities like vanadium. after combustion, this metal remains in boiler fuel ash in the form of oxide. in this research, extraction of vanadium oxide from fuel ash has been investigated. two processes were used for this purpose. a pyro- hydrometallurgy and a hydrometallurgy process. in the pyro-hydrometallurgy process, using sodium carbonate, salt ro...

The work investigated the protective role of vitamin E on vanadium induced neurotoxicity. Three adult female rats were divided into three groups, A-C with each dam and her pups forming a group. Group A served as control. The dam in Group B was given 3mg/kg b.w./day of vanadium from PND 1 while the Group C dam were given 3mg/kg b.w./day of vanadium, for 14 days and 500mg/kg b.w. of vitamin E 72 ...

We report the first tris(alkoxide)V(III) complex to bind dinitrogen. Removal of THF from V(OR)(3)THF furnishes the highly reactive V(OR)(3) fragment, which binds dinitrogen to form [V(OR)(3)](2)(μ-N(2)) in the solid state. Dinitrogen is readily released upon dissolution of the complex. Structural and DFT studies are consistent with significant activation of N(2) when bound by the vanadium tris(...

The biochemical activity and morphology of control and streptozotocin-diabetic rat liver Golgi complexes were previously investigated by us under influence of some vanadium [V(IV)] compounds. The effectiveness of these derivatives depends on the kind of complexing ligands. This paper presents the investigation of the effect of bipyridyl, the ligand of a new vanadium compound, tested by us with ...

Conducting polymers of a Schiff-base ligand and the corresponding oxo-vanadium(IV) complex have been synthesized, characterized, and studied. The metal-free ligand polymer allows for direct comparison between the properties of the ligand polymer and corresponding conducting metallopolymer. The role of the metal centers in the conducting metallopolymer is elucidated unambiguously.

OBJECTIVE Ascorbic acid is a powerful antioxidant and protects against lipid peroxidation in cerebral membrane. The objective of the study was to investigate protective effects of ascorbic acid on lipid peroxidative damage and perturbation of enzymes, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in discrete regions of rat brain after vanadium exposure. METHODS Thi...

This paper presents an environmental exposure assessment model for estimating chronic intake of vanadium (a transition metal) by cattle farmed extensively in areas contaminated by vanadium pollutants. The exposure model differs from most other models in several ways: (1) it does not rely heavily on extrapolating information from the point source (e.g. stack height, exit velocity, exit diameter)...

Vanadium is a potentially toxic environmental pollutant and induces oxidative damage in biological systems including the central nervous system (CNS). Its deposition in brain tissue may be involved in the pathogenesis of certain neurological disorders which after prolonged exposure can culminate into more severe pathology. Most studies on vanadium neurotoxicity have been done after acute exposu...
