In this paper, a highly linear and low noise CMOS active RF tracking filter for a digital TV tuner is presented. The Gm cell of the Gm − C filter is based on a dynamic source degenerated differential pair with an optimized transistor size ratio, thereby providing good linearity and high-frequency operation. The proposed RF tracking filter architecture includes two complementary parallel paths, ...
An implantable wireless system with on-chip antenna for cardiovascular pressure monitor is studied. The implantable device is operated in a batteryless manner, powered by an external radio frequency (RF) power source. The received RF power level can be sensed and wirelessly transmitted along with blood pressure signal for feedback control of the external RF power. The integrated electronic syst...
As device size scales down, there have been challenges to design conventional analog circuits, such as low voltage headroom and the low intrinsic gain of a device. Although ever-decreasing device channel length in CMOS technology has mainly negative effects on analog circuits, it increases device speed and reduces the power consumption of digital circuits. As a result, time-based signal process...
Wireless communication microsystems with high density of nodes and simple protocol are emerging for low-data-rate distributed sensor network applications such as those in home automation and industrial control. This type of wireless microsystem with sensors and electronics are becoming of interest for biomedical applications. Moreover, in order to implement an efficient power-consumption wirele...
Low power wireless sensor networks provide a new monitoring and control capability for civil and military applications in transportation, manufacturing, biomedical technology, environmental management, and safety and security systems. Low power integrated CMOS systems are being developed for microsensors, signal processors, microcontrollers, communication transceivers and network access control...

This paper describes a 1.5-V 5 GHz I/Q down conversion mixer in a 0.18-μm CMOS process. The mixer achieves a conversion gain of 12.7 dB within 1-dB compression point (iCP1dB) of -15.83 dBm. It also achieves a double side band (DSB) NF of 13.5 dB. The mixer's IIP3 is -5.94 dBm. The mixer consumes only 5.72 mA of current from a 1.5-V power supply. This paper explores a variety of different CMOS varactor structures for RF and MMICs. A typical 0.18 μm CMOS foundry process was used as the study platform. The varactors’ capacitance-voltage characteristics and cutoff frequencies have been examined up to 55 GHz. The primary aim of this work is to design varactors that can improve nonlinear-transmission-line (NLTL) pulsecompression circuits. Th...
