We read with great interest the article by LIEBERMAN et al. [1] published in this journal last December regarding community-acquired pneumonia in the Beer-Sheva area of Israel. We were especially interested in their results regarding Mycoplasma infections. They found the peak incidence of pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma to be during spring, but not in the winter months (p=0.054). Furthermore, th...
Mycoplasma spp, belongs to the class Mollicutes and is capable to produce alterations in cellular cultures causing damages to the biotechnological industry. Bioproducts generally require two essential inputs, bovine serum and cells. The study herein aims to evaluate the mycoplasma concentrations that affect the growing of BHK21 and Vero cells. The species used were: Mycoplasma orale, M. salivar...
EVALUATION OF SEROPREVALENCE MYCOPLASMA PNEUMONIAE SPECIFIC IGM AND IGG ANTIBODIES IN ASYMPTOMATIC PRESCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN
A major surface antigenic lipoprotein of Mycoplasma agalactiae, promptly recognized by the host's immune system, was characterized. The mature product, P48, showed significant similarity and shared conserved amino acid motifs with lipoproteins or predicted lipoproteins from Mycoplasma fermentans, Mycoplasma hyorhinis, relapsing fever Borrelia spp., Bacillus subtilis, and Treponema pallidum.
The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro antimycoplasmal activity of hydroxytyrosol. Twenty strains of Mycoplasma hominis, three strains of Mycoplasma fermentans, and one strain of Mycoplasma pneumoniae were used. For M. pneumoniae, M. hominis, and M. fermentans, the MICs were 0.5, 0.03 (for 90% of the strains tested), and 0.25 microg/ml, respectively.
Mycoplasma contaminants can be considered important not only for their roles as pathogens but also they may indicate that insufficient care has been taken during vaccine manufacture or quality control. The purpose of this study was to test the poliomyelitis vaccines for Mycoplasma by culture and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods. During 2008 to 2009, a total of 47 lots of oral poliomyelit...
The maintenance of contamination-free cell lines is essential to cell-based research. Among the biggest contaminant concerns are mycoplasma contamination. Although mycoplasma do not usually kill contaminated cells, they are difficult to detect and can cause a variety of effects on cultured cells, including altered metabolism, slowed proliferation and chromosomal aberrations. In short, mycoplasm...
mycoplasma is an important respiratory tract pathogen worldwide, causing respiratory tract infection in small ruminants ( sheep and goats). it is a bacterium that causes acute respiratory illness ranging in severity from mild respiratory illness to severe pneumonia. mycoplasmosis in small ruminants is a serious and major problem in iran. this study was determined to isolate mycoplasma species a...
background: mycoplasma hominis and ureaplasma urealyticum microorganisms may play a role in infertility. the aim of this study is to determine prevalence of mycoplasma hominis and ureaplasma urealyticum microorganisms in infertile women and their husbands. methods: in this cross-sectional study presence of mycoplasma hominis and ureaplasma urealyticum were examined in infertile couples who have...
Objective. In connection with the possible relationship between Mycoplasma infection and the onset of asthma, several studies have shown not only a high level of serum total immunoglobulin E (IgE) but also the production of IgE specific to Mycoplasma or common allergens during the course of Mycoplasma infection. It has been suggested that the balance of T helper type 1 (TH1)/T helper type 2 (TH...
