The efficacy of a herbal mouth rinse on the oral microbial load in Down syndrome children. The study design consisted of thirty Down syndrome children aged between 7 and 13 years from Divya down Development Trust in Bangalore. Children were divided into 2 groups consisting of 15 children in each group. Group A were given herbal mouth rinse and Group B were given chlorhexidine mouth rinse, both ...
Silicone polymers containing the light-activated antimicrobial agent methylene blue with or without gold nanoparticles were evaluated for their ability to reduce the microbial load on surfaces in a clinical environment. When irradiated with white light, polymers containing nanogold were more effective in this respect than those containing only methylene blue.
The Christchurch wastewater treatment plant uses a series of six oxidation ponds to reduce the bacterial load of treated effluent before it is discharged into the local estuary. To ensure that this discharge does not adversely affect water quality in the receiving environment, local regulations specify maximum levels in the discharge for a number of parameters, including enterococci. Between 20...
Introduction: Consumption of vegetable products is increasing commonly in the world because they are recognized as an important source of nutrients, vitamins, and fiber for humans. Salads are among the most widely used foods that are also known as the most contaminated foods in restaurants. This study was conducted to determine the microbial contamination of salad-preparing tables and salad-ser...
To date, a large body of data supports the hygiene hypothesis. However, the explanation of the relationship of autoimmune and allergic diseases with a decrease in microbial load still seems insufficient. Here, an attempt is made at interpreting the available data in terms of a new perspective on infection and immunity.
Burned Pseudomonas aeruginosa-infected mice immunized against PcrV, a type III virulence system translocating protein, showed significantly enhanced survival compared to controls. Survival was non-O serotype specific and correlated with a reduced systemic microbial load. Infection with a high-level toxin A-producing strain required supplemental antitoxin treatment to enhance survival.
The lack of predictable in vitro methods to analyze antimicrobial activity could play a role in the development of resistance to antibiotics. Current used methods analyze planktonic cells but for the method to be clinically relevant, biofilm in in vivo like conditions ought to be studied. Hence, our group has developed a qualitative and quantitative method with in vivo like 3D tissue for predic...
The influence of chlorine levels, the concentration of dissolved organic carbon and the abundance of bacteria in suspension, on the formation of biofilms on experimental glass surfaces were evaluated. Twelve reactors, packed with glass spheres, were continuously perfused with tap water. The properties of water were altered in different ways: chlorine was neutralized by the addition of thiosulfa...
Background: Today, bottled water is used in many countries of the world due to its relatively low cost, better taste, ease of access and low levels of impurities. In unfavorable conditions, the maintenance of microorganisms due to hydrophobicity and adherence to bottles and as a result of increased lipolytic activity can lead to undesirable changes in color, taste and odor, and in cases of more...
