BACKGROUND Maternal mortality is extremely high in Nigeria. Accurate estimation of maternal mortality is challenging in low-income settings such as Nigeria where vital registration is incomplete. The objective of this study was to estimate the lifetime risk (LTR) of maternal death and the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in Jigawa State, Northern Nigeria using the Sisterhood Method. METHODS Int...

Existing OO methodologies focus on instance behaviors and reduce the role of a class to object creation. In fact, these methodologies do not address the issue of class design itself. Nevertheless, classes have their own properties, which are not related to the semantics of their instances. Examples of such properties are wellknown and language independent : concrete vs abstract classes, single ...

Several attractive theories predict the existence of mirror fermions. There is a good theoretical reason to expect that the lightest mirror fermions might have relatively long lifetimes. We explore the experimental consequences of such a possibility, focusing on mirror lepton production at the SLC near the Z” resonance. We find that by going slightly off resonance or by polarizing the electron ...

The protective effect of having a first full-term pregnancy (FFTP) at a younger age on women's lifetime risk of breast cancer is well known. Less appreciated is the increased risk seen in the years immediately following pregnancy. This adverse effect is more pronounced and more prolonged in women with later age at FFTP. The mechanisms responsible for this increased risk are still poorly underst...

Digital fabrication, and especially 3D printing, is an emerging field that is opening up new possibilities for craft, art and design. The process, however, has important limitations; in particular, digitally designed artifacts are intrinsically reproducible. In stark contrast, traditional craft artifacts are individually produced by hand. The authors combine digital fabrication and craft in the...

Studies have suggested that the default mode network is active during mind wandering, which is often experienced intermittently during sustained attention tasks. Conversely, an anticorrelated task-positive network is thought to subserve various forms of attentional processing. Understanding how these two systems work together is central for understanding many forms of optimal and sub-optimal ta...

We argue that garbage collection should be more closely tied to object demographics. We show that this behaviour is sufficiently distinctive to make exploitation feasible and describe a novel GC framework that exploits object lifetime analysis yet tolerates imprecision. We argue for future collectors based on combinations of approximate analyses and dynamic sampling.

Gompertz-Poisson distribution is a three-parameter lifetime distribution with increasing, decreasing, increasing-decreasing and unimodal shape failure rate function and a composition of Gompertz and Poisson distributions cut at zero point that in this paper estimated the parameters of the distribution by maximum likelihood method and in order to confirm the calculated estimates, based on random...

background: human activities such as mining enhance the radioactivity levels above normal background which can lead to an incremental increase in the radiation risk to the population. materials and methods: 20 tailing enriched soil samples collected around maiganga coal mine, gombe, northeast nigeria were assessed for their 226ra, 232th and 40k contents using hpge gamma-ray detector. results: t...
