We determined the complete nucleotide sequences of three plasmids that encode CTX-M extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) in pulsed-field gel electrophoresis-defined United Kingdom variants (strains A, C, and D) of the internationally prevalent Escherichia coli O25:H4-ST131 clone. Plasmid pEK499 (strain A; 117,536 bp) was a fusion of type FII and FIA replicons and harbored the following 10 ...

Salmonella enterica bla(CTX-M-2) and bla(CTX-M-9) plasmid backbones from isolates from Belgium and France were analyzed. The bla(CTX-M-2-)plasmids from both human and poultry isolates were related to the IncHI2 pAPEC-O1-R plasmid, previously identified in the United States in avian Escherichia coli strains; the bla(CTX-M-9) plasmids were closely related to the IncHI2 R478 plasmid.

In rat serum as well as in human serum and bile after injection of cefotaxime (CTX), the parent compound and the active metabolite desacetyl cefotaxime (dCTX) have been demonstrated by quantitative analysis with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Simultaneous determination of CTX by bioassay using test organisms sensitive to both CTX and dCTX resulted in spuriously high concentratio...

In the Jurkat T cell line, triggering of the TCR leads to activation of phospholipase C, resulting in an increase in inositol trisphosphate (IP3) release followed by a rise in intracellular Ca2+. This signaling pathway is interrupted by cholera toxin (CTX) treatment. To possibly explain this inhibition, we demonstrate that CTX can affect the TCR/CD3 complex itself by causing a covalent modifica...

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the presence virulence and antimicrobial resistance genes clonal profile Enterobacteriaceae isolated from calves, cows, feeding buckets milk bucket. A a total 31 isolates calves (6), bucket (6) cows’ rectum (13) were used. LT, STa, STb, STx1, STx2, eae, rmpA, wabG, mrkD, kfu, mcgA, fimH uge as well genes: AmpC MOX, FOX, MIR, ACT, DHA, ACC, CTX-M...

Cholera toxin (Ctx) is a powerful mucosal adjuvant with potential applications for oral vaccination of swine. Dendritic cells (DC) play a key role in the decision between immunity and tolerance, and are likely target cells for mediating Ctx functions in vivo. Therefore, we examined the capacity of Ctx to enhance stimulatory activity of porcine monocyte-derived DC (MoDC). Ctx promoted the develo...

Crotoxin (CTX) is the main neurotoxin found in Crotalus durissus rattlesnake venoms being composed by a nontoxic and non-enzymatic component (CA) and a toxic phospholipase A2 (CB). Previous crystallographic structures of CTX and CB provided relevant insights: (i) CTX structure showed a 1:1 molecular ratio between CA and CB, presenting three tryptophan residues in the CA/CB interface and one exp...

We analyzed 19 clinical isolates of the family Enterobacteriaceae (16 Escherichia coli isolates and 3 Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates) collected from four different hospitals in Paris, France, from 2000 to 2002. These strains had a particular extended-spectrum cephalosporin resistance profile characterized by a higher level of resistance to cefotaxime and aztreonam than to ceftazidime. The bla(C...

OBJECTIVES To characterize a novel ceftazidime-hydrolysing CTX-M mutant, designated CTX-M-54, produced by Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical isolate BDK0419 and to investigate its genetic environment. METHODS Antimicrobial susceptibilities were determined by disc diffusion and agar dilution methods, and the double-disc synergy test was carried out. Detection of genes encoding class A beta-lactama...

Natural environment influenced by anthropogenic activities creates selective pressure for acquisition and spread of resistance genes. In this study, we determined the prevalence of Extended Spectrum β-Lactamases producing gram negative bacteria from the River Yamuna, India, and report the identification and characterization of a novel CTX-M gene variant bla CTX-M-152 . Of the total 230 non-dupl...
