Variation in natural gas composition, alongside the potential for H2 enrichment, creates significant changes to premixed flame behaviour. To strengthen fundamental understanding of lean multi-component alternative fuel blends, an outwardly propagating spherical was employed measure speeds and Markstein lengths C1C4 hydrocarbons, precisely mixed blends CH4/C2H6, CH4/C3H8 CH4/H2. Theoretical rela...

We employed the Schwinger multichannel method to compute elastic cross sections for low-energy electron collisions with ethane (C2H6). The calculations were carried out in the static-exchange and static-exchange plus polarization approximations for energies up to 12 eV. Our integral cross section shows good agreement with experimental data and with theoretical results for energies above 5 eV. T...

We report measurements of turbulent heat transport in samples of ethane (C2H6) heated from below while the applied temperature difference DeltaT straddled the liquid-vapor coexistence curve T(phi)(P). When the sample top temperature T(t) decreased below T(phi), droplet condensation occurred and the latent heat of vaporization H provided an additional heat-transport mechanism. The effective cond...

Observations made during the New Horizons flyby provide a detailed snapshot of the current state of Pluto's atmosphere. Whereas the lower atmosphere (at altitudes of less than 200 kilometers) is consistent with ground-based stellar occultations, the upper atmosphere is much colder and more compact than indicated by pre-encounter models. Molecular nitrogen (N2) dominates the atmosphere (at altit...

The mutual sensitization of the oxidation of NO and a CH(4)-C(2)H(6) (10 : 1) simulated natural gas (NG) blend was studied under fuel lean conditions (Phi = 0.5) at 50 atm and 1000-1500 K in the UIC high pressure shock tube (HPST). New experimental results were also obtained for the mutual sensitization of methane and the NG blend in the CNRS jet stirred reactor (JSR) at 10 atm. A detailed chem...

ion increases the {(k1+ k 0 2)/(k 0 3+k 0 4)} ratios markedly, from 0.03 for surface-mediated pathways to 0.14 for OHmediated pathways (Table 1). H2O also leads to lower k 0 5/k 0 1 ratios (4.3 without H2O; 0.63 for OH-mediated pathways; Table 1), which is consistent with the preferential enhancement of CH4 over C2H4 activation rates by OH-mediated routes. Surfaces oxidize C2H4 (k 0 5) more eff...

Interferences in coherent emission of photoelectrons from two equivalent atomic centers in a molecule are the microscopic analogies of the celebrated Young's double-slit experiment. By considering inner-valence shell ionization in the series of simple hydrocarbons C2H2, C2H4, and C2H6, we show that double-slit interference is widespread and has built-in quantitative information on geometry, orb...

We report on the performance of a micro-TPC with a micro pixel chamber(μPIC) readout for a time-resolved neutron position-sensitive detector(PSD). Threedimensional tracks and the Bragg curves of protons with energies of around 1 MeV were clearly detected by the micro-TPC. More than 95% of gamma-rays of 511 keV were found to be discriminated by simple analysis. Simulation studies showed that the...
