This paper describes the simulation of movement control of a one-degree-of-freedom articulated robot arm SCARA actuated by a pair of McKibben pneumatic artificial muscles. The pneumatic artificial muscle is the actuator and emulates the behavior of biological muscles; due to its nonlinear behavior, there is also a need to develop control systems for robot arms using this type of actuator. Resea...

This paper reports on the use of a new actuator, called Pleated Pneumatic Artificial Muscle, in a one dimensional set-up, it is build as a footless leg with only the knee powered by a pair of Pleated Pneumatic Artificial Muscles. The main goal of this study is the evaluation of the adaptable passive behaviour of these Artificial Muscles in a leg, which can be exploited for an energy efficient w...

The reversible texture modulation behavior of cephalopods is driven by cutaneous muscles known as papillae. These papillae lead to the generation complex dynamic 3D shapes on skin that allows them camouflage their surroundings and optimize swimming efficiency reducing hydrodynamic drag. In a recent work, we developed Twisted Spiral Artificial Muscles (TSAMs) mimic muscles. TSAMs are flat Archim...

In this paper we illustrate the properties and the morphology of a human like neural reflex controller, used to set the stiffness and joint positions of an anthropomorphic artificial hand. In particular we explain, by simulations results, its ability to emulate the myotatic human reflex, and its capacity to learn in real time the best control strategy. We also present the dynamic model of the j...

Electroactive Artificial Muscles In article number 2212252, Chi Won Ahn, Jaehwan, Il-Kwon Oh, and co-workers synthesize a fast responsive ultra-stable electroactive artificial muscle from MXene anchoring manganese-based 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate metal-organic framework. Interestingly, the designed is used to demonstrate mimicry of eye motions, including eyelid blinking eyeball movement.

High compliant legs are essential for the efficient versatile locomotion and shock absorbency of humans. This study proposes a biped robot actuated by pneumatic artificial muscles to mimic human locomotion. On the basis of the musculoskeletal architecture of human lower limbs, each leg of the biped robot is modeled as a system of three segments, namely, hip joint, knee joint, and ankle joint, a...
