the association of pemphigus and thymoma is real, although rare. we report a 73-year-old woman presenting with cutaneous bullac and erosions superimposed on erythematous and urticarial plaques, and a positive nikolsky sign. she. had a large mediastinal mass that proved to be a benign thymoma. her skin biopsy and direct immunofluorescence test were suggestive of superficial pemphigus.

There has been recent interest in the association between buUous erythema multiforme (Basler, 1973), bullous pemphigoid (Parsons & Savin, 1968), pemphigus vulgaris (Saikia, 1972) and Senear-Usher syndrome (Saikia & MacConnell, 1972) with various neoplasms. A 46-year-old male patient presented with pemphigus erythematosus which was refractory to various forms of therapy including large doses of ...

OBJECTIVE Autoimmune bullous diseases are heterogeneous diseases and the differentiation between the various bullous disease is important for treatment and prognosis. Direct immunofluorescence microscopy is still the gold standard in differentiating these diseases. Our aim was to determine the diagnostic accordance between clinical and histopathological/direct immunofluorescence diagnosis of pa...

introduction : pemphigus vulgaris (pv) is a relatively rare autoimmune disease characterized by blistering of the skin and mucosa. the main objective of this study was to investigate the possible association between the 5-httlpr polymorphism and pv in iranian patients. for this, 112 pv and 100 controls were enrolled in this study. materials and methods : in this case-control study, genomic dna ...

Objective As a rare autoimmune disease, pemphigus vulgaris has a poor prognosis especially in lack of proper medical support. This blistering disease involves both the skin and mucus membranes. The challenge is improving the healing process of skin lesions of which, superimposed infections are among the main causes of the disease mortality. Accordingly, we aimed to assess the treatment options ...

Pemphigus vulgaris is a rare, potentially fatal, autoimmune blistering disease of the skin and mucous membranes. Treatment of this disease is problematic because of a lack of high-grade, evidence-based recommendations, the side-effect profiles of the therapies available, and the extensive supportive care that afflicted patients require. The authors present the unfortunate course of a patient wi...

Pemphigus is an autoimmune disease that causes blisters and erosions in the skin and mucous membranes. The development of pemphigus is associated with the imbalance of T‑cell and humoral responses. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) can regulate many cell functions. However, whether miRNA expression is altered in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) during the pathogenesis of pemphigus has not been clari...

BACKGROUND Human amnion membrane (HAM) was suggested to be a superior antigenic substrate for immunoblotting in detecting autoantibodies of autoimmune bullous skin diseases. OBJECTIVES To determine the properties of HAM as an antigenic substrate for the detection of autoantibodies in pemphigus vulgaris and bullous pemphigoid. METHODS Immunomapping and tandem liquid chromatography mass spect...

Paraneoplastic pemphigus is an autoimmune blistering and erosive mucocutaneous syndrome associated with underlying neoplasm. It is primarily associated with lymphoproliferative disorders, and uncommonly with malignancies of epithelial origin. We report on a case of a 68-year-old male who presented with whole body bullous and erosive skin lesions. Findings on upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and...

BACKGROUND Soluble CD200 (sCD200) is a novel immuno-effective molecule, which acts to regulate inflammatory and acquired immune responses. Recently, our study group showed that sCD200 was present in serum and blister fluid in a patient with bullous pemphigoid and a patient with toxic epidermal necrolysis. We therefore planned this study to evaluate the sCD200 levels of autoimmune and inflammato...
