Bacillus subtilis SC-8 is a Gram-positive bacterium displaying narrow antagonistic activity for the Bacillus cereus group. B. subtilis SC-8 was isolated from Korean traditional fermented-soybean food. Here we report the draft genome sequence of B. subtilis SC-8, including biosynthetic genes for antibiotics that may have beneficial effects for control of food-borne pathogens.
BACKGROUND Food-borne pathogens are among the most significant problems in maintaining the health of people. Many probiotics have been widely reported to alleviate and protect against gastrointestinal infections through antibacterial secretion. However, the majority of them cannot always play antagonistic roles under gut conditions. Probiotic bacteria of human origin must possess other protecti...
background: food borne pathogens are of the main concerns of food producers and consumers and escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus create a lot of problems worldwide. the aim of this study was to evaluate antibacterial effects of monolaurin, sorbic acid and potassium sorbate on s. aureus and e. coli at different ph values and nacl concentrations. methods: micro-well dilution assay was use...
For example a recent recall of processed meats products by a leading food processor in Trinidad, West Indies assured the need for safe and sanitary handling of streetfoods. Some consumers may cut purchases of certain street-food items or avoid consuming them because of fearing from food borne pathogens [2]. Thus, they need to be informed always about their food and how it is prepared and handle...
Food-borne diseases are a widespread and growing public health and economic problem. Recent modifications in food production and processing practices and ever-changing food habits of the consumer are important factors for the incidence of food-borne infections. Many recognized pathogens are of great concern today and new challenges have appeared in the recent years as the role of the interactio...
A paramount and alluring sphere of research, now-a-days, is food analysis, because of the breakneck augmentation of food enterprise and highly hightened maneuverability of today's populations. The management of food quality is very indispensable both for consumer safeguard as well as the food corporations. The biosensors' application in the field of food analysis is quite propitious for the rev...
L. monocytogenes are facultative intracellular bacterial pathogens that cause food borne infections in humans. Very little is known about the gastrointestinal phase of listeriosis due to the lack of a small animal model that closely mimics human disease. This paper describes a novel mouse model for oral transmission of L. monocytogenes. Using this model, mice fed L. monocytogenes-contaminated b...
Food-borne infections are among the prominent health hazards. Antibacterial agents (ABA) are usually administered to poultry in Lebanon as antibiotic growth promoters (AGP), which might lead to the dissemination of resistant bacterial strains. The aims of this study were to isolate potential food borne pathogens from poultry and investigate an association between AGP usage and antibacterial res...
The metallic keypads of automatic teller machines (ATMs) were examined to investigate their potential as sources of food borne pathogen. The procedure involved culturing and identifying swabs of the keypads of five ATMs, swabs of disinfected fingers and swabs of disinfected fingers used in a cash-redraw simulation. The results indicated the possibility of cross-contamination of the fingers duri...
Staphylococcal food-borne disease (SFD) is one of the most common food-borne diseases worldwide resulting from the contamination of food by preformed S. aureus enterotoxins. It is one of the most common causes of reported food-borne diseases in the United States. Although several Staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs) have been identified, SEA, a highly heat-stable SE, is the most common cause of SF...
