In this paper using strongly duplexes we introduce a new class of (semi)hypergroups. The associated (semi)hypergroup from a strongly duplex is called duplex (semi)hypergroup. Two computer programs written in MATLAB show that the two groups Z2n and Zn × Z2 produce a strongly duplex and its associated hypergroup is a complementary feasible hypergroup.

MOTIVATION While there are numerous programs that can predict RNA or DNA secondary structures, a program that predicts RNA/DNA hetero-dimers is still missing. The lack of easy to use tools for predicting their structure may be in part responsible for the small number of reports of biologically relevant RNA/DNA hetero-dimers. RESULTS We present here an extension to the widely used ViennaRNA Pa...

An L-DNA, the mirror-image isomer of natural DNA, has extraordinary nuclease resistance, and thus the molecules should be promising reagents for many applications, such as antisense technology. However, little is known about the structural and thermodynamic properties of DNAs with this modified nucleotide. In this study, we prepared the L-nucleotide (L-dA) and introduced it into oligodeoxyribon...

The extent of evolutionary conservation of DNA complimentary to RNA stored in the mature oocyte of the sea urchin S. purpuratus has been assessed. To do this, such DNA was hybridized with total genomic DNA of S. purpuratus and S. franciscanus and the thermal stability of the resultant duplexes was measured by two methods. In the first method, the duplexes were bound to hydroxylapatite and therm...

Hantaviruses are tripartite negative-sense RNA viruses and members of the Bunyaviridae family. The nucleocapsid (N) protein, encoded by the smallest of the three genome segments (S), has nonspecific RNA chaperone activity. This activity results in transient dissociation of misfolded RNA structures, may be required for facilitating correct higher-order RNA structure, and may function in viral ge...

We have studied the effect of a 2',5'-RNA third strand backbone on the stability of triple helices with a 'pyrimidine motif' targeting the polypurine strand of duplex DNA, duplex RNA and DNA/RNA hybrids. Comparative experiments were run in parallel with DNA and the regioisomeric RNA as third strands adopting the experimental design of Roberts and Crothers. The results reveal that 2',5'-RNA is i...

Loss of the RecQ helicase WRN protein causes the cancer-prone progeroid disorder Werner syndrome (WS). WS cells exhibit defects in DNA replication and telomere preservation. The telomeric single-stranded binding protein POT1 stimulates WRN helicase to unwind longer telomeric duplexes that are otherwise poorly unwound. We reasoned that stimulation might occur by POT1 recruiting and retaining WRN...

Parameters affecting deoxyribonucleic acid duplex (DNA-DNA) formation on membrane filters were evaluated. The reference strains used were Cytophaga succinicans strain 8, which has a guanine plus cytosine (GC) content of 38%, and Myxococcus xanthus strain FB, which has a GC content of 70%. Both organisms are gliding bacteria classified among the myxobacteria. Among the parameters evaluated, the ...

HeLa cell heterogeneous nuclear RNA derived from high-molecular-weight nuclear ribonucleoprotein (RNP) particles contains oligo(U) sequences of 15-50 nucleotides base-paired with poly(A). These duplexes are resistant to pancreatic RNase at 0.5 M NaCl in native RNP, remain so after chemical deproteinization of the RNP digests, and then copurify with poly(A) on oligo(dT)-cellulose chromatography....
