OBJECTIVES Urine cell-free (UCF) DNA has recently been proposed as a potential marker for early bladder cancer diagnosis. It is known that normal apoptotic cells produce highly fragmented DNA while cancer cells release longer DNA. Therefore, we verified the potential role of UCF DNA integrity in early bladder cancer diagnosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS UCF DNA was isolated from 51 bladder cancer ...

Mammalian early embryos maintain accurate genome integrity for proper development within a programmed timeline despite constant assaults on their DNA by replication, DNA demethylation and genetic defects transmitted from germ cells. However, how genome integrity is safeguarded during mammalian early embryonic development remains unclear. BCAS2 (breast carcinoma amplified sequence 2), a core com...

Genetic and biochemical sperm integrity is essential to ensure the reproductive competence. However, spermatogenesis involves physiological changes that could endanger sperm integrity. DNA protamination and apoptosis have been studied extensively. Furthermore, elevated rates of aneuploidy and DNA injury correlate with reproductive failures. Consequently, this study applied the conventional sper...

Background: Since the deleterious effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during sperm cryopreservation can be overcome by antioxidants, post-thaw human sperm quality may perhaps profit from adding antioxidants to the extender media prior to cryopreservation. This study evaluated the effects of different concentrations of Trolox supplementation to cryo-protective media on post-thaw motility an...

Background: About 15% of male infertility is due to genital tract infection and inflammation, some them have no clinical symptoms, but manifested as leukocytospermia (LCS). Leukopenia will lead functional impairment sperm integrity damage morphology. A large amount reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by leukocytes can nuclear DNA. The aim this study was investigate the correlation between le...

Raman Spectroscopy was evaluated as a non-invasive method of analysis of sperm DNA and the influence of UV irradiation on the sperm. The results show that Raman Spectroscopy, combined with multivariate analysis provide the reproducible and accurate information on DNA of sperm and the effect and location of damage.

BACKGROUND The circulating DNA concentration and integrity was examined by a quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) in the plasma from patients with gastric cancer and their diagnostic value for the detection of gastric cancer assessed. PATIENTS AND METHODS Plasma samples were collected preoperatively from 53 patients with gastric cancer and 21 healthy controls. qPCR was performed usin...

Nucleic acid protection is a substantial challenge for neurons, which are continuously exposed to oxidative stress in the brain. Neurons require powerful mechanisms to protect DNA and RNA integrity and ensure their functionality and longevity. Beside its well known role in microtubule dynamics, we recently discovered that Tau is also a key nuclear player in the protection of neuronal genomic DN...
