We are interested in the mechanisms that generate neuronal diversity within the Drosophila central nervous system (CNS), and in particular in the development of a single identified motoneuron called RP2. Expression of the homeodomain transcription factor Even-skipped (Eve) is required for RP2 to establish proper connectivity with its muscle target. Here we investigate the mechanisms by which ev...

This article describes our implementation of the Optical Music Recognition System (OMR). The system implemented in our project is based on the binary neural network ADAM. ADAM has been used for recognition of music symbols. Preprocessing was implemented by conventional techniques. We decomposed the OMR process into several phases. The results of these phases are summarized.

Adam, Antonis, Kammas, Pantelis, and Lapatinas, Athanasios—Income inequality and the tax structure: Evidence from developed and developing countries This paper seeks to examine the effect of income inequality on the structure of tax policies. We first use a simplified theoretical framework which allows us to formalize the testable implications of the relevant literature. Subsequently, our analy...

BACKGROUND Encephalitis is a relatively rare presentation of enterovirus (EV) infections. Clinical and epidemiologic characteristics of EV encephalitis (EVE) have not been well characterized. METHODS Patients with encephalitis enrolled in the California Encephalitis Project from 1998 to 2005 were tested for a range of pathogens, including EV, using a standardized diagnostic algorithm. EVE was...

Eve is active, we need to determine the upper bound on the probability of the event that Alice and Bob do not both reject although secret-key agreement has not been successful. There are two cases in which this can occur: one is where Eve successfully guesses a = &(S) to impersonate Bob and makes Alice accept. The other case is where, after Eve saw&(S), she successfully guesses c = f,(S) to imp...

The protocol is, however, susceptible to a man-in-the-middle attack [3], in which the adversary (Eve) intercepts a message from Alice and creates a new message to send to Bob (Fig.1). Eve performs the exchange with Alice using the original message, while Bob performs the exchange using the newly created message. At the final stage, Eve has the original message in decrypted form, while Bob has t...

Immunotherapy based on blockade of the programmed death-1 (PD-1)/programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) axis has shown promising clinical activity for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients; however, the most effective use of these agents in combination with conventional targeted therapy remains to be resolved. Here we evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of the combination of the mTOR inhibitor everolim...

Nervous system-specific eve mutants were created by removing regulatory elements from a 16 kb transgene capable of complete rescue of normal eve function. When transgenes lacking the regulatory element for either RP2+a/pCC, EL or U/CQ neurons were placed in an eve-null background, eve expression was completely eliminated in the corresponding neurons, without affecting other aspects of eve expre...

The first sign of metamerization in the Drosophila embryo is the striped expression of pair-rule genes such as fushi tarazu (ftz) and even-skipped (eve). Here we describe, at cellular resolution, the development of ftz and eve protein stripes in staged Drosophila embryos. They appear gradually, during the syncytial blastoderm stage and soon become asymmetric, the anterior margins of the stripes...
