BACKGROUND Epithelioid, foam, and multinucleated giant cells (MNGCs) are characteristics of tuberculosis granulomas, yet the precise genesis and functions of these transformed macrophages are unclear. We evaluated the role of platelets as drivers of macrophage transformation in mycobacterial infection. METHODS We employed flow cytometry and microscopy to assess cellular phenotype and phagocyt...

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a relatively uncommon lesion usually presenting in soft tissues. The occurrence in the mediastinum is exceptional rare. Histologically, this tumor is characterized by epithelioid cells with intracytoplasmic vacuoles in a hyalinized or mucinous stroma. Occasionally, spindle cells or osteoclast-like giant cells can be observed. Herein, we present a case of epit...

Epithelioid angiosarcoma is a rare high-grade tumor with irregular vascular morphology. We report an unusual case of intra-abdominal epithelioid angiosarcoma affecting the omentum and peritoneal surfaces resulting in significant hemorrhagic and inflammatory changes. As in other cases of this tumor this patient had previously undergone radiation treatment for a history of cervical cancer.
