Fields of wind velocity, divergence, and reflectivity were derived from Doppler radar measurements in a New England storm over a 6-hr. period. 9 laycr of casterlies near the surfncc increased in depth and speed during the period. Above this layer the wind veered with hcight to SW and W, and then backed to SW. Changes in wind dircction with time in thc layer bctween 4 and 6 km. indicr)ted the pn...

Pulsatile two-dimensional flow through static divergent models of the human vocal folds is investigated. Although the motivation for this study is speech production, the results are generally applicable to a variety of engineering flows involving pulsatile flow through diffusers. Model glottal divergence angles of 10, 20, and 40 represent various geometries encountered in one phonation cycle. F...

We present a novel monolithic divergence-conforming HDG scheme for linear fluid-structure interaction problem with thick structure. A pressure-robust optimal energy-norm estimate is obtained the semidiscrete scheme. When combined Crank--Nicolson time discretization, our fully discrete energy stable and produces an exactly divergence-free fluid velocity approximation. The resulting system, which...

Experimental data of a fluid turbulence is analysed with respect to the statistical dependency of eddies of different length scales. The joint probability distributions of velocity fluctuations of two different length scales ̧ 1 , ̧ 2 are evaluated. We quantify statistical dependency by calculating the correlation function as well as a suitably defined Kullback information.

This article is devoted to the proof of the hydrodynamical limit from kinetic equations (including BGK-like equations) to multidimensional isentropic gas dynamics. It is based on a relative entropy method; hence the derivation is valid only before shocks appear on the limit system solution. However, no a priori knowledge on high velocity distributions for kinetic functions is needed. The case o...

‎The water wave generation by wave paddle and a freely falling rigid body are examined by using an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH)‎. ‎In the current ISPH method‎, ‎the pressure was evaluated by solving pressure Poisson equation using a semi-implicit algorithm based on the projection scheme and the source term of pressure Poisson equation contains both of divergence free ve...

A two dimensional numerical model of shallow water equations was developed to calculate sub and super-critical open channel flows. Utilizing an implicit scheme the steady state equations were discretized based on a control volume method. Collocated grid arrangement was applied with a SIMPLEC like algorithm for depth-velocity coupling. A power law scheme was used for discretization of convection...

The decay of the velocity autocorrelation function in a sheared granular flow is analyzed in the limit where the wavelength of fluctuations is larger than the "conduction length," so that energy is a nonconserved variable. The decay of the velocity autocorrelation function is much faster than that in a fluid at equilibrium for which energy is a conserved variable. Specifically, the autocorrelat...

We investigate the residual-free bubble method (RFB) for the linearized incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. Starting with a nonconforming inf-sup stable element pair for approximating the velocity and pressure, we enrich the velocity space by discretely divergence-free bubble functions to handle the influence of strong convection. An important feature of the method is that the stabilization...
