Calcium ionophoretic properties of ferutinin were re-evaluated in solvent-containing bilayer lipid membranes. The slopes of conductance-concentration curves suggest that in the presence of a solvent in the membrane the majority of complexes appear to consist of a single terpenoid molecule bound to one Ca ion. By contrast, the stoichiometry of ferutinin-Ca(2+) complexes in acetone determined usi...
Metabolic engineering (ME) of Clostridium acetobutylicum has led to increased solvent (butanol, acetone, and ethanol) production and solvent tolerance, thus demonstrating that further efforts have the potential to create strains of industrial importance. With recently developed ME tools, it is now possible to combine genetic modifications and thus implement more advanced ME strategies. We have ...
Judicious choice of precipitation conditions can lead to self-sorting of equilibrating mixtures of aromatic aldehydes and substituted anilines into a handful of imine products. The selectivity of this process is caused by the solubility differences among possible imines in the EtOH-H(2)O solvent mixtures used in precipitation.
In the absence of solvent, highly selective hydrogenation of o-chloronitrobenzene and m-chloronitrobenzene, with selectivity to the corresponding chloroanilines of ≥99.4% and complete conversion of the substrates, was realized over a robust Pt/Fe(3)O(4) catalyst which was prepared by adsorbing Pt nanoclusters on a Fe(3)O(4) support.
A novel sulfamethazine molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-coated stir bar for sorptive extraction of eight sulfa drugs from biological samples was prepared. The MIP-coating was about 20 μm thickness with the relative standard deviation (RSD) of 6.7% (n=10). It was characterized by scanning electron microscope, infrared spectrum, thermogravimetric analysis, and solvent-resistant investigation, ...
This paper reports the selective separation of zinc over iron from spent pickling wastes or effluents using two different membrane-based solvent extraction process configurations, Nondispersive solvent extraction (NDSX) and emulsion pertraction technology (EPT). The process aims to obtain a highly concentrated zinc solution with a negligible content of iron to allow for Zn electrowinning. The e...
Ionic liquid (IL) 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride was found to effectively intensify cyclohexanol oxidation and resulted in 100% conversion of cyclohexanol with 100% selectivity to cyclohexanone using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant and WO(3) as a catalyst. The effect of the IL as a solvent is discussed with the support of COSMO-RS theory.
[reaction: see text] An efficient and versatile method for stereoselective synthesis of (E)-3,3-(diarylmethylene)indolinones by a palladium-catalyzed tandem Heck-carbocyclization/Suzuki-coupling sequence is presented. Factors influencing yield and selectivity, namely catalyst, coordinating ligand, and solvent, are detailed.
The influence of solvent on the selectivity of α-olefin in the product hydrocarbon as a function of carbon number over a 20 wt.% Co on SiO2 catalyst under the typical reaction conditions of 513 K, 4.5 MPa and H2/CO = 2 has been investigated. Hydrocarbons with different carbon numbers and molecular structures, including n-hexane, n-octane, n-decane, n-dodecane, n-hexadecane, iso-octane and decah...
The reaction of dibenzoylacetylene with 4-alkylaminocoumarins in THF/H2O (50:50) lead to 4-(alkylamino)-3-(1,4-dioxo-1,4-diphenylbut-2-en-2-yl)-2H-chromen-2-one derivatives in good yields. When the reaction carried-out in DMSO the cyclized products 2-hydroxy-1-alkyl-3-(2-oxo-2-phenylethylidene)-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydrochromeno [4,3-b] pyrrol-4(1H)-ones were formed in good yields.
