A 36-year-old man presented with haemoptysis and his admission chest radiograph showed a large thin walled cystic lesion with an air-fluid level in the left lower lobe. The pathological diagnosis of the lesion, which was removed by a left lower lobe resection, was an intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst.
BACKGROUND The primary goals of this interdisciplinary consensus statement are to review the relevant anatomy of the central neck compartment, to identify the nodal subgroups within the central compartment commonly involved in thyroid cancer, and to define a consistent terminology relevant to the central compartment neck dissection. SUMMARY The most commonly involved central lymph nodes in th...
Pulmonary barotrauma (PBT) is a recognised risk of compressed gas diving. Any reason that causes air trapping in the lung during ascent may cause PBT by increasing intrapulmonary pressure. Chest x ray examination is mandatory for medical certification of the professional divers in many countries, but pulmonary air trapping lesions such as an air cyst in the lungs cannot always be detected by pl...
Hydatid cyst is a disease caused by a parasitic tapeworm, Echinococcus granulosus, and most commonly involves liver and lung. Ruptured pulmonary hydatid cyst can present a diagnostic challenge, and radiograph can be inconclusive. Anaphylactic reaction is a rare complication of ruptured pulmonary hydatid cyst. A 22-year-old male came to our emergency department in shock with symptoms of shortnes...
Bronchogenic cysts result from an abnormal budding or branching of the tracheobronchial tree. Approximately 30% of the cysts are located in the mediastinum and the remaining 70% in the lung. The cyst may be joined to the tracheobronchial tree by a fistula or by a fibrous band. Pulmonary bronchogenic cysts occur most frequently in the lower lobes, primarily on the right side. They are thin-walle...
Objective Thoracoscopic treatment of pulmonary hydatid cyst (PHC) has been considered to be a good treatment option in both children and adults for nearly 25 years. However, there have been very few pediatric studies published during this period. Our goal is to review our results and evaluate the efficiency of thorascopy in pediatric patients. Materials and Methods The medical records of pati...
Iran is recognized as an endemic area for lung hydatidosis. Surgical removal of some hydatid cysts may have setious morbid consequences. To determine the characteristics of these special cysts, a retrospective survey was carried out on patients admitted to Modarres Hospital in Tehran between 1989 and 1998. We have found that ruptured, bilateral, lung located, and giant cysts (> ] 0 cm) caus...
