Gating of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) with the stimuli-responsive poly(β-amino ester) has been achieved. This hybrid nanocarrier releases doxorubicin (DOX) under acidic conditions or in the presence of porcine liver esterase. The DOX loaded poly(β-amino ester)-capped MSNs reduce cell viability when tested on MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells.

A magnetothermally-responsive nanocarrier was developed for efficient thermo-chemotherapy by combining efficient magnetic hyperthermia (MH) and magnetothermally-facilitated drug release. The effective magnetothermal-response contributed to high enhancement of tumor cell killing by an operating mechanism involving MH-facilitated cellular uptake and Heat Shock Protein over-expression.

A new approach to prepare functional polymeric micelles in a one step reaction using the unique catalytic property of PHA synthase is described. A biopolymer-based nanocarrier with cancer targeting capability was successfully synthesized from genetically engineered PHA synthase fused with RGD peptide.

Nanocarrier (NC) transport in blood vessels involves hydrodynamic and thermodynamic interactions, which collectively dictate efficacy in targeted drug delivery applications. We investigate two important transport effects of (1) the effect of blood particulates in defining the hydrodynamic fields in simple and complex vascular geometries, and (2) hydrodynamic interactions for NCs of complex shapes.

Background Lung cancer is the primary cause of cancer-related death worldwide. A redox-sensitive nanocarrier system was developed for tumor-targeted drug delivery and sufficient drug release of the chemotherapeutic agent paclitaxel (PTX) for improved lung cancer treatment. Methods The redox-sensitive nanocarrier system constructed from a hyaluronic acid-disulfide-vitamin E succinate (HA-SS-VE...

The objective of this work was the development of a new drug nanocarrier intended to overcome the barriers associated to the oral modality of administration and to assess its value for the systemic or local delivery of peptides. The nanocarrier was rationally designed taking into account the nature of the intestinal barriers and was loaded with insulin, which was selected as a model peptide. Th...

Taguchi orthogonal array design is a statistical approach that helps to overcome limitations associated with time consuming full factorial experimental design. In this study, the Taguchi orthogonal array design was applied to establish the optimum conditions for bovine serum albumin (BSA) nanocarrier (ANC) preparation. Taguchi method with L9 type of robust orthogonal array design was adopted to...

Codelivery of nitric oxide (NO) and drugs based on a single nanocarrier is a promising therapeutic strategy. Here, we report a one-step nanoprecipitation method to generate nanoparticles that possess simultaneous NO-donating and doxorubicin releasing properties. S-Nitroso polysilsesquioxane acts like an avid "drug sponge" that attracts drug molecules into nanospheres.

A water-soluble nanocarrier for a photo-activated CO releasing moiety (photoCORM) that can be triggered with NIR excitation is described. This has an upconversion nanoparticle core encapsulated by an amphiphilic polymer imparting both water solubility and a hydrophobic interior containing the photoCORM trans-Mn(bpy)(PPh3)2(CO)2. Such an ensemble offers a unique strategy for CO delivery to biolo...
