in this study, the effective parameters on the inelastic response of asymmetric buildings is evaluated for an ensemble of real iranian earthquake records by considering soil-structure interaction. then, the design eccentricity obtained from the inelastic dynamic soil-structure analysis is compared with the design eccentricity of seisimic codes of iran, atc-3, new zeland, canada, mexico, austral...

In recent years, destructive earthquakes have shown the deficiencies of the existing buildings. One of the most effective mechanisms for dissipating the earthquake energy is inelastic deformation of the steel components. The objective of this research is to study the application of metallic dampers for dissipation of the earthquake energy and to investigate the behavior of concrete structures i...

The binary collision dynamics of Dg,3/2 ground state scandium atoms is studied from first principles. We employ 30 coupled diabatic ab initio potentials in a coupled-channels study of the scattering dynamics of cold and ultracold scandium atoms in external magnetic fields. Due to the long-ranged magnetic dipolar interaction, the field dependence of the cross section does not follow the threshol...

We investigate the multi-Regge model in the kinematic region where the four momentum of one initial particle is large and spacelike. These kinematics occur in inelastic electron scattering through single virtual photon exchange. We predict a rapid fall off in the cross section as the virtual particle becomes more spacelike, contradicting present data. (Submitted to Phys . Rev. ) t Supported by ...

It is shown that the parity–violating deep–inelastic scatterings of unpolarized charged leptons on polarized protons, ℓ ∓ + P → (−) ν ℓ +X, could provide a sensitive test for the behavior and magnitude of the polarized strange–quark density in a proton. Below charm threshold these processes are also helpful to uniquely determine the magnitude of individual polarized parton distributions.

The results of model calculations of apparent optical properties for realistic marine waters with inclusion of Raman scattering and fluorescence are presented. It is shown that the underwater light spectrum can be divided, by a threshold wavelength, into two regions with different behavior of apparent optical properties, and also that inelastic effects are significant and should be considered i...

We discuss recent theoretical results on diffractive deeply inelastic scattering, focusing on the partonic picture of diffraction in configuration space and the predictions for the β behavior and the scaling violation. Typeset using REVTEX Talk by F. Hautmann at the International Symposium on Multiparticle Dynamics and QCD ISMD99, Brown University, 9-13 August 1999, to appear in the proceedings.

Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE) are materials, which combine the advantages of elastomers and thermoplastics. TPE is not only used as replacement for thermoplastics. More and more parts, formerly made of rubber like CVJ boots and hydraulic seals, are nowadays made of TPE. Since the mechanical behavior of TPEs is different to elastomers, the design of TPE parts cannot be copied directly from thei...

Behavioral economic theory is a useful framework for analyzing factors influencing choice, but the majority of human behavioral economic research has focused on drug choice. The behavioral economic choice paradigm may also be valuable for understanding food-maintained behavior. Our primary objective was two-fold: (1) Validate a human laboratory model of food-appetitive behavior, and (2) Assess ...
