We report that N(2),N(6)-bis(4-nitrophenyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide, which is related to known isophthalic acid dianilides, transports Cl(-) ions through phospholipid bilayer membranes and shows clear evidence of channel activity.
Dipicolinic acid was investigated as a new anchoring group for DSSCs. A pilot dye (PD2) bearing this new anchoring group was found to adsorb significantly stronger to TiO2 than its cyanoacrylic acid analogue. The electrolyte composition was found to have a strong effect on the photoelectrochemical properties of the adsorbed dye in the device, allowing the dye LUMO energy to be tuned by 0.5 eV. ...
Germination of Bacillus spores with a high pressure (HP) of ∼150 MPa is via activation of spores' germinant receptors (GRs). The HP germination of multiple individual Bacillus subtilis spores in a diamond anvil cell (DAC) was monitored with phase-contrast microscopy. Major conclusions were that (i) >95% of wild-type spores germinated in 40 min in a DAC at ∼150 MPa and 37°C but individual spores...
Using semiclassical electron-radiation-ion dynamics, the authors have examined the effect of nuclear motion, resulting from both finite temperature and the response to a radiation field, on the line broadening of the excitation profile of 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (dipicolinic acid). With nuclei fixed, there is a relatively small broadening associated with the finite time duration of an app...
The relationship between butirosin biosynthesis and certain biochemical characteristics related to sporulation in a strain of Bacillus circulans NRRL B-3313 was examined. The cellular content of dipicolinic acid increased while the amount of poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate decreased with changes in antibiotic productivity. Oligosporogenous mutants failed to synthesize the antibiotic and to degrade po...
