For Generalized Reed-Muller, GRM(q, d, n), codes, the determination of the second weight is still generally insolved, it is an open question of Cherdieu Rolland [1]. In order to answer this question, we study some maximal hypersurfaces and we compute the second weight of GRM(q, d, n) codes with the restriction that q > 2d. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification. 11T71, 14J70, 05B25.

This paper presents a new approach for the absolute self-localization of a mobile robot in structured large-scale environments. The requirements with regard to both, the necessary a-priori knowledge as well as the sensor equipment, are low. The algorithm scales up very well, due to a hybrid representation of the environment that augments a topological map with metric information. As a consequen...

Second order algorithms belong to the class of repetitive heuristic techniques, where a greedy heuristic is applied to different subsets of the space of feasible solutions of a problem. The algorithm establishes a sequence of self-contained solutions subspaces, defining an iterative process that guides a subordinate greedy heuristic through those subspaces. This steepest descent process establi...

The paper presents 15 years of research conducted on the Bremen Autonomous Wheelchair “Rolland”. Rolland is a mobility assistant for the handicapped and the elderly. The paper presents the different versions of Rolland that were built over the years, as well as the special input devices that are used with Rolland. Contributions were made to the state of the art in the areas of self-localization...

Abstract. Introducing a product line approach in an organization requires a systematic scoping phase to decide what products and features should be included. Product line scoping is a non-trivial activity and traditionally consumes a lot of time and resources. This issue highlights the need to complement traditional scoping activities with semi-automatic approaches that allow to initially estim...

In current Virtual Environment systems, the stereoscopic images presented in a Head-Mounted Display are far from optimal. The aim is to achieve orthostereoscopy, which roughly means images should ”behave as in real life”. A theoretical model developed by Robinett and Rolland [RR91] was used to implement a stereoscopy test system, allowing the independent setting of many stereoscopy related para...
