Itaconic acid (IA) is a well-known bio-based monounsaturated organic (C5H6O4), with white color and crystalline structure. It widely used in the agro-based, plastics, textile, paint pharmaceutical sectors, owing to its flexible structure, due presence of functional groups covalent double bonds. IA an alternative petrochemicals acrylic methacrylic acids. Commercial manufacturing using Aspergillu...

Amid expectations for a European ‘transition to sustainable agriculture’, there are competing transitional processes. Given the widely acknowledged harm from agro-industrial systems, unsustainable agriculture has divergent diagnoses and innovative solutions. In the EU policy context of a Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy (KBBE), there are also divergent accounts of its key terms: biological resources...

Coloured rice genotypes have greater nutritious value and consumer demand for these varieties is now greater than ever. The documentation of these genotypes is important for the improvement of the rice plant. In this study, 42 coloured rice genotypes were selected for determination of their genetic divergence using 25 simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers and 15 agro-morphological traits. Twenty...

Background Waste biomass from agro-food industries are a reliable and readily exploitable resource. From the circular economy point of view, direct residues from these industries exploited for production of fuel/chemicals is a winning issue, because it reduces the environmental/cost impact and improves the eco-sustainability of productions. Results The present paper reports recent results of ...

Paecilomyces lilacinus has potential for pests control. We aimed to analyze mycelial growth and spore production in P. lilacinus strains in several agro-industrial residues and commercial media. This study suggests alternative nutrient sources for fungi production and that the biotechnological potential of agro-industrial refuses could be employed in byproducts development.

India is the largest producer of sugarcane in Asia and its sugar industry represents second agro-based industry. Sugarcane bagasse (SCB), a major waste from industries, indisputably lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) embedding ∼60 % carbohydrates, making it renewable source fermentable sugars. Despite unique chemical composition, SCB primarily used for co-generation. The enormous potential can be un...
