TL-201 Scanning and in Differentiating Malignant from Benign Masses of Breast

چکیده مقاله:
Physical examination and mammography are currently the only proven and reliable methods of early detection of breast cancer. Although, both procedures are highly sensitive, their limited specificity often requires surgical biopsy in order to differentiate between malignant and benign lesions.Palpable mass abnormalities of breast are often difficult to evaluate mammographically, especially in patients with fib- rocystic changes and dense breasts. The current study evaluates TL-201 as a potential test m detecting malignancy and in differentiating malignant from benign masses. In this study 15 females and I male with breast masses were evaluated by TL-201 scanning. Six patients had malignant masses (in one patient the malignant involvement was hilaterally).Remainder of patients had benign abnonnalities. In all 7 malignant breast tumors accumulation of TL-201 were seen which implied 100 % of sensitivity. In remainder 25 breasts (with benign disease and no disease) abnormal uptake of TL-201 was seen just in one breast with mastitis. Therefore the specificity of this study was 96 % . However the number of cases in this study was not high, but indicated the values of TL-201 scintigrapby in differentiating malignant from benign breast masses.

The usefulness of serum thyroglobulin levels and Tl-201 scintigraphy in differentiating between benign and malignant thyroid follicular lesions.
OBJECTIVE To compare the diagnostic capabilities of various serum thyroglobulin levels (Tg) and Tl-201 scintigraphy with regard to thyroid follicular lesions. METHODS We examined 80 thyroid follicular lesions (benign: 55, malignant: 25) in patients with nodular goiter for whom a pathological diagnosis was made based on surgical findings. Tg was measured by an I-125 (radioimmunoassay) method. ...

OBJECTIVE The study aimed to evaluate the influence of sonoelastographic strain ratio in distinguishing benign from malignant breast masses. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients who were referred for diagnostic biopsy of a breast mass were examined by ultrasound and sonoelastography prior to percutaneous biopsy. Sonoelastography was performed twice by the same observer in the same session. The stra...
متن کاملDifferentiation of malignant from benign pancreatic mass by Tl-201 abdominal SPECT.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the ability of Tl-201 abdominal SPECT to differentiate between chronic focal pancreatitis and pancreatic malignancy. Seventeen patients (12 men, 5 women; mean age, 56 years; 9 pancreatic cancer, 8 chronic pancreatitis) with pancreatic mass were prospectively investigated with Tl-201 abdominal SPECT. In all patients, CT and/or US could not clarify the...
متن کاملThe Value of LDH Level of BAL Fluid in Differentiating Benign from Malignant Solitary Pulmonary Nodules
Background: Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) concentration is an indicator for tissue injury. It may be secreted locally in many conditions. For the first time, this study was performed to investigate the value of LDH level in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in differentiation of benign from malignant single pulmonary nodules (SPNs) and to assess its relationship with serum LDH levels. Met...

PURPOSE We compared strain ratio vs. qualitative elastography for the further differentiation of focal breast lesions, with special focus on limiting factors. MATERIALS AND METHODS 215 patients with 224 histologically proven breast masses (116 malignant, 108 benign) were prospectively examined using a high-end ultrasound system (Philips iU22) with serial elastography function. B-mode scans an...
متن کاملAbsence of Human Papillomavirus in Benign and Malignant Breast Tissue
Background & Objective: Malignant breast tumors, which are one of the most important deadly cancers in women, like many other cancers, are proposed to be related to viruses etiologically. Proper management of breast carcinoma necessitates an identification of the etiological factors. Human Papillomavirus is considered to have an etiological role in breast carcinoma. We...
