برای بررسی و شناخت، پرستار نیاز به شناسایی مکانیزم های دفاعی بدن و علم و آگاهی کلی از عفونت دارد هم چنین مروری از تاریخچه بیماری مددجوو خانواده وی، کمک به شناسایی موقعیت بیماری واگیر دار می نماید و بررسی حالتهای بالینی بیمار تعیین کننده علائم و نشانه های عفونت خواهد بود. تجزیه و تحلیل یافته های آزمایشگاهی عاملی مهم در بررسی و شناخت عوامل خطر یا موقعیتهای افزایش دهنده عفونت و چگونگی وضعیت عفونت در مددجو می باشد و به پرستار در برنامه ریزی پیشگیری از عفونت در استفاده از تکنیکهای ضد عفونی مناسب کمک نموده و ..
