Profile of Eight Prophage Sequences Present in the Genomes of Different Acinetobacter baumannii Strains

چکیده مقاله:
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Prophage sequences are major contributors to interstrain variations within the same bacterial species. Acinetobacter baumannii is a gram-negative bacterium that causes a wide range of nosocomial infections, especially in intensive care unit inpatients. Prophage sequences constitute a considerable proportion of several sequenced complete genomes of A. baumannii. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of prophage sequences in A. baumannii strains isolated from burn patients, and compare the results with other studies. Methods: Presence of eight prophage sequences was investigated in the genome of ten multi-drug resistant A. baumannii isolates obtained from burn sites of 10 burn patients in a hospital in Isfahan, Iran. PCR and sequencing were performed to detect the prophage sequences. The presence of the eight prophage sequences in the genome of A. baumannii strains from other studies was investigated by BLAST analysis of whole nucleotide sequence of prophage sequences. Results: The isolates in the present study had different prophage sequence profiles. Two isolates did not contain any of the sequences, while two isolates contained three and two of the prophage sequences. Other isolates contained only one sequence. The prophage sequence profiles observed in this study were not found in A. baumannii isolates from other studies. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the prophage sequences profile can be useful for studying the epidemiology of A. baumannii strains. Keywords: Acinetobacter baumannii, genome, prophage sequences.

CLSI based antibiogram profile and the detection of MDR and XDR strains of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from urine samples
Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is an emerging nosocomial pathogen causing serious complications due to the propensity of its multi-drug resistant property. Due to the indiscriminate and wide-spread use of antibiotics, A. baumannii strains emerge as MDR-Ab, XDR-Ab and in recent years pan-DR-Ab strains. Routine therapy incorporates the application of fewer antibiotics and antibiotic surveill...

the present study sought to investigate the role of dynamic assessment (da) in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels. to this end, after conducting the quick placement test, 60 iranian efl learners were assigned to two groups with different language proficiency levels. in both groups each participant wrote two compositions, one before and one af...
Unique structural modifications are present in the lipopolysaccharide from colistin-resistant strains of Acinetobacter baumannii.
Acinetobacter baumannii is a nosocomial opportunistic pathogen that can cause severe infections, including hospital-acquired pneumonia, wound infections, and sepsis. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains are prevalent, further complicating patient treatment. Due to the increase in MDR strains, the cationic antimicrobial peptide colistin has been used to treat A. baumannii infections. Colistin-resis...

Background and Aims: Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) is an important multidrug-resistant opportunistic pathogen frequently causing various nosocomial infections and is a serious threat to burn patients. These infections are usually caused by the outbreak strains. The aim of this study was to show antibiotic resistance pattern and molecular typing of A. baumannii genes isolates collected ...

We read with great interest the recent publication of Tien and colleagues in which they describe the antimicrobial susceptibilities of a large number of Acinetobacter baumannii-Acinetobacter calcoaceticus strains isolated from a medical center in Taiwan (1). They suggested that antimicrobial susceptibility was negatively associated with virulent potential because more-susceptible strains were r...
