O-30: Impact of Environment Tobacco Smoke Exposure on Oxidative Stress in Antral Follicle and Assisted Reproduction Outcomes
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Background: Cigarette smoke contains many oxidants and may alter the human reproduction by inducing oxidative stress (OS) in both active and passive smokers. This study was designed to evaluation the effect of environment tobacco smoke (ETS) exposure on oxidative stress in follicular follicle and assisted reproduction outcomes. Materials and Methods: A prospective study was carried out on 236 infertile women who underwent assisted reproduction cycles. The ETS exposure was assessed using self-reported ETS exposure and cotinine level in follicular fluid. To evaluate the OS in FF malon-di-aldehyde (MDA) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were measured. The number of retrieved oocytes, rate of metaphase II stage oocytes, fertilization rate, good cleavage rate and no fragmented embryo rate were considered assisted reproduction outcomes. The results were adjusted for age, body mass index, duration and etiology of infertility. P-values of less than 0.05 were considered significant. Results: The MDA and TAC levels in FF were not related to both self-report number of weekly ETS exposure and cotinine levels in FF (p<0.05). Also, the number of retrieved oocytes, MII stage oocytes, fertilization rate, good cleavage rate and no fragmented embryo rate were not related to cotinine level and weekly ETS exposure. But in women who their cotinine levels in FF were lower and equal/ above 3.5ng/ml, the number of retrieved oocytes was higher (12.63 ±. 71 vs. 9.28 ± 1.11). The relationship between OS and cleavage rate (p<0.05) and the relationship between MII stage rate and TAC (p<0.05) were positively significant. Conclusion: The ETS exposure may alter assisted reproduction success influencing on number of available oocytes. Although, the OS in follicular environment affect ability of oocytes to reach specific cleavage stages at appropriate time intervals, it does not mediate poor assisted reproduction outcomes due to ETS exposure.

متن کاملMaternal Exposure to Second-hand Smoke and Super Ovulati on Outcome for Assisted Reproduction
Background The effect of smoking cigarettes is followed by diverse effects on ovaries and developing follicles but the effect of passive smoking on ovarian function is unknown. On the other hand, the ovarian response to induction is a very important step in assisted reproduction. The aim of this study is to compare ovarian response in passive smokers and non-passive smokers in an assisted repro...
متن کاملFemale Infertility and Assisted Reproduction: Impact of Oxidative Stress
Oxidative stress (OS) occurs with an overabundance of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and the inability of scavengers, i.e. antioxidants, to neutralize excessive loads of ROS. OS has a role in the etiopathologenesis of many factors causing natural infertility. Infertility is a problem of great magnitude affecting 6 million American women. The etiologies of unexplained infertility and r...

Smoking during pregnancy is associated with various adverse effects on pregnancy and fetal development, carries a lot of serious complications such as spontaneous abortion, placental abruption, and reduced birth weight of the newborn. Children of smoking mothers have an increased risk of premature birth, low birth weight, sudden infant death syndrome and respiratory diseases during infancy. Smo...
