Morphological characteristics of Parsi cichlid Iranocichla persa (Teleostei; Cichlidae)

چکیده مقاله:
To provide more morphological data of I. persa, in this study, morphological characteristics along with scales and otolith were studied. Fish samples were collected from Khorgo spring and transferred to the laboratory. Fish were classified into three class sizes based on standard length. Based on the results, the size of the first class was different in 12 relative traits but did not show a significant difference in the number of anal and dorsal fin rays. The general shape of otoliths was trapezoidal, and antistrostrom was not developed in small fish (SCI, SCII), while rostrum was more developed in larger fish than antistrostrum. Also, the ventral edge of the otolith was wider and serrated with age. Examination of the structure of the scales showed that in the first class, the relative length of the scales (JSL) was significantly different. Based on this study, it can be concluded that in addition to past documented molecular data, some morphological characteristics of fish bodies, otoliths, and scales can also be used to identify native Iranian cichlid fish. It was also found that phenotypic characteristics in this species show degrees of ontogenetic diversity (dependent on fish growth and length) that should be examined in detail.

Iranocichla persa, a new cichlid species from southern Iran (Teleostei, Cichlidae)
Iranocichla persasp. n. is described from the Shur, Hasanlangi and Minab River drainages flowing into the Persian Gulf at the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran. It is distinguished from Iranocichla hormuzensis, from the Mehran River drainage, by nuptial males having a bright orange breast and lower part of the head (vs. black), a poorly developed or invisible (vs. distinctive) "Tilapia-mark" in...
متن کاملPhylogeny and biogeography of cichlid fishes (Teleostei: Perciformes: Cichlidae)
Family level molecular phylogenetic analyses of cichlid fishes have generally suffered from a limited number of characters and ⁄or poor taxonomic sampling across one or more major geographic assemblage, and therefore have not provided a robust test of early intrafamilial diversification. Herein we use both nuclear and mitochondrial nucleotide characters and direct optimization to reconstruct a ...

متن کاملTempo and rates of diversification in the South American cichlid genus Apistogramma (Teleostei: Perciformes: Cichlidae)
Evaluating biodiversity and understanding the processes involved in diversification are noticeable conservation issues in fishes subject to large, sometimes illegal, ornamental trade purposes. Here, the diversity and evolutionary history of the Neotropical dwarf cichlid genus Apistogramma from several South American countries are investigated. Mitochondrial and nuclear markers are used to infer...

It is distinguished from all other described species of Krobia (K. guianensis Regan, K. itanyi Puyo and K. xinguensis Kullander) as well as the closely related 'Aequidens' potaroensis and 'A'. paloemeuensis by tubed scales of the upper lateral line extending caudally into a line bisecting the lat...
متن کاملPhylogeny and historical biogeography of trans-Andean cichlid fishes (Teleostei: Cichlidae)
We reconstruct the historical biogeography of cichlid fishes endemic to the trans-Andean region of NW South America. DNA sequences were used to study historical biogeography of the cichlid genera Andinoacara (Cichlasomatini) and Mesoheros (Heroini). Two eventbased methodological approaches, parsimony-based Statistical Dispersal-Vicariance Analysis (S-DIVA) and likelihood-based DispersalExtincti...
