Linear model for physical activity prediction in healthy middle aged men

چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: The usage of valid, reliable, rapid and low cost instruments for measurement of physical activity (PA) volume are essential in epidemiological and clinical studies. The purpose of this study was to develop a new physical activity prediction model using physiological and anthropometric variables in middle aged men. Methods: Daily physical activity was measured with pedometer throughout the day for 2 consecutive week in 101 40-65 years old men. Anthropometric variables, total daily energy expenditure and Vo2rest were measured. Linier regression was used to obtain prediction model with independent variables. Results: A significant correlation was found between average steps per day and independent variable P<0.001). Daily steps was predictable with BMI, BMR, TDEE and VO2rest (r2=0.961, SEE=767 steps/day, P<0.001). A significant correlation was found between the measured and predicted PA (steps/day) in samples (P<0.001). Conclusion: This study show that BMI, BMR, TDEE and VO2rest are useful variables in predicting daily PA volume. It seems that regression linear equation can be applied at clinical and epidemiological studies

OBJECTIVES To assess the relation between physical activity and stroke and to determine the overall benefit of physical activity for all major cardiovascular events. DESIGN Prospective study of a cohort of men followed up for 9.5 years. SETTING General practices in 24 towns in England, Wales, and Scotland (British regional heart study). متن کاملVariations in maximal oxygen intake with physical activity in middle-aged men.
SUMMARY Data on maximal exercise performance are presented for normal middle-aged men free of cardiovascular disease. Maximal oxygen intake, oxygen pulse, heart rate, and lactate levels all decrease with increasing age. Physical activity defined by habitual running of any amount had a highly significant effect on maximal oxygen consumption. The enhanced effect of physical activity was found equ...

A population-based case-control study was conducted to assess the relation between physical activity and colon cancer among men and women aged 30-62 years. Cases were 251 men and 193 women diagnosed with colon cancer in 1985-1989 in three countries in the Seattle metropolitan area who were identified from the Seattle-Puget Sound Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registry. Controls wer...

متن کاملConfusion and Conflict in Assessing the Physical Activity Status of Middle-Aged Men
BACKGROUND Physical activity (including exercise) is prescribed for health and there are various recommendations that can be used to gauge physical activity status. The objective of the current study was to determine whether twelve commonly-used physical activity recommendations similarly classified middle-aged men as sufficiently active for general health. METHODS AND FINDINGS We examined th...
