چکیده مقاله:

Tooth root crack is considered as one of the crucial causes of failure in the gearing system and it occurs at the tooth root due to an excessive bending stress developed in the root region. The modern power transmission gear drives demand high bending load capacity, increased contact load capacity, low weight, reduced noise and longer life. These subsequent conditions are satisfied by the aid of precisely designed asymmetric tooth profile which turns out to be a suitable alternate for symmetric spur gears in applications like aerospace, automotive, gear pump and wind turbine industries. In all step up and step down gear drives (gear ratio > 1), the pinion (smaller in size) is treated as a vulnerable one than gear (larger in size) which is primarily due to the development of maximum root stress in the pinion tooth. This paper presents an idea to improve the bending load capacity of asymmetric spur gear drive system by achieving the same stresses between the asymmetric pinion and gear fillet regions which can be accomplished by providing an appropriate addendum modification. For this modified addendum the pinion and gear teeth proportion equations have been derived. In addition, the addendum modification factors required for a balanced maximum fillet stress condition has been determined through FEM for different parameters like drive side pressure angle, number of teeth and gear ratio. The bending load capacity of the simulated addendum modified asymmetric spur gear drives were observed to be prevalent (very nearly 7%) to that of uncorrected asymmetric gear drives.

A Comparative Study of Tooth Wear, Mechanical Power Losses and Efficiency in Normal and High Contact Ratio Asymmetric Spur Gears

The surface tooth wear which occurs at the gear contact region due to inadequate contact strength of the tooth is one of the predominant modes of gear failures. Currently, higher contact ratio spur gears are increasingly used in power transmission applications such as aircraft, wind turbine, automobiles and compact tracked vehicles due to their high load carrying capacity.  In this work, the di...

Influence of dynamic behaviour on elastohydrodynamic lubrication of spur gears

In this study, the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) behaviour of high-speed spur gear contacts is investigated under dynamic conditions. A non-linear time-varying vibratory model of spur gear pairs is introduced to predict the instantaneous tooth forces under dynamic conditions within both the linear and non-linear operating regimes. In this model, the periodically time-varying gear mesh st...

Effect of Shaft Misalignment on The Stresses Distribution of Spur Gears

Dr. Hani Aziz Ameen* Received on :17/8/2009 Accepted on:7/1/2010 Abstract Shaft misalignment is considered as one of the common repeated problems in most rotating machineries , which leads to generate vibrations and extra dynamic loads on transmitting gears teeth, also leads to nonuniformity in distribution of applied load along the meshing tooth face by being concentrated on one side of tooth ...

Optimal Selection of Addendum Modification Coefficients of Involute Cylindrical Gears

Based on the principles of equalized sliding coefficients and equalized teeth bending strength, the optimization mathematical model for calculating and allocating the addendum modification coefficients of involute cylindrical gear is firstly established. Then the measures to calculate the tooth parameters in real-time during the optimization steps are achieved. Finally, the optimization program...

The source of Acoustic Emission during meshing of spur gears

Condition monitoring of gears with vibration analysis and Spectrometric Oil Analysis Programs (SOAP) are widely accepted and used in the military aviation industry. Whilst the literature to date has shown the application of the Acoustic Emission (AE) technique to gearbox health monitoring still be in its infancy, there exist opportunities to develop the technique into a complementary diagnostic...
