چکیده مقاله:

In this study, quantitative trait loci (QTLs) controlling rice heading date were detected in a F2:3 population derived from a cross between an indica rice variety, Tarom Mahalli, with early heading date, and an indica variety, Khazar, with late heading date. SSR linkage map was constructed using 74 polymorphic markers and 192 F2 individuals and covered a total of 1231.50 cM of rice genome. QTL mapping of heading date was performed by simple and composite interval mapping. Three major genes (hd1, hd4 and hd9) were identified on chromosomes 1, 4 and 9 and two minor genes (hd2a and hd2b) were mapped on chromosome 2. Major genes explained over 60% of total phenotypic variation and had negative additive effects for decreasing heading date. These results will be useful in marker-assisted breeding to improve rice genotype with early heading date.

Identification of stress-responsive genes in an indica rice (Oryza sativa L.) using ESTs generated from drought-stressed seedlings.

The impacts of drought on plant growth and development limit cereal crop production worldwide. Rice (Oryza sativa) productivity and production is severely affected due to recurrent droughts in almost all agroecological zones. With the advent of molecular and genomic technologies, emphasis is now placed on understanding the mechanisms of genetic control of the drought-stress response. In order t...

SSR mapping of brown planthopper resistance gene Bph9 in Kaharamana, an Indica rice (Oryza sativa L.).

The brown planthopper (BPH) is one of the most serious insects pests of rice, and the host resistance has been recognized as one of the most economic and effective measures for BPH management. In this study, we conducted a molecular-based genetic analysis of Bph9 in Kaharamana, a Sri Lanka rice variety resistant to BPH insects of East and Southeast Asia. An F2 segregating population composed of...

Construction of Microsatellite Linkage Map and Detection of Segregation Distortion in Indica Rice (oryza Sativa L.)

High density molecular linkage map is a prerequisite to identify the quantitative traits loci. Construction of linkage maps, using mapping populations derived from two major subspecies: indica and japonica in rice, have been reported. However, limited work was conducted in indica subspecies. Present studies focused to construct a molecular map based on indica × indica (Shaheen Basmati × Pokkali...

Population structure analysis and association mapping of blast resistance in indica rice (Oryza sativa L.) landraces.

Rice blast caused by Magnaporthe oryzae is one of the most devastating rice diseases worldwide. To understand the genetic diversity of indica landrace accessions and identify simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers that are associated with blast resistance, a population of 276 indica landraces from across the world was constructed. This population was then used to evaluate the blast-resistance phe...

Influence of epistasis and QTL x environment interaction on heading date of rice (Oryza sativa L.).

QTLs for heading date of rice (Oryza sativa L.) with additive, epistatic, and QTL x environment (QE) interaction effects were studied using a mixed-model-based composite interval mapping (MCIM) method and a double haploid (DH) population derived from IR64/Azucena in two crop seasons. Fourteen QTLs conferring heading date in rice, which were distributed on ten chromosomes except for chromosomes ...

Multivariate Physiological Indices for Salt Tolerance Classification in Indica Rice (oryza Sativa L. Spp. Indica) Suriyan Cha-um

summary. The aim of this investigation was to identity effective criteria for classification of salt tolerance and salt sensitivity in rice cultivars by using multivariate characters. Osmolarity in salt-stressed leaves decreased, and was positively related to low water potential (Ψ w) (r 2 =0.99 and r 2 =1), leading to chlorophyll a degradation (r 2 =0.65 and r 2 =0.77) in both salt-tolerant (H...
