I-21: Embryo Relinquishment for Reproduction
نویسنده
چکیده مقاله:
Background: The conceptualization of the transfer of embryos between the individuals who created them to one or more recipients for family-building is hotly contested – particularly as regards whether the practice should be most appropriately considered to be “donation” or “adoption”. This paper examines this debate, considering the research carried out on the intentions and decisions of those with embryos to relinquish and ethical debate over how this process should be organised. Materials and Methods: Examination of the medical, sociology and ethics literature. Conclusion: Given the diversity of views on embryo relinquishment reflected in the studies carried out in this area, those with unused embryos should have the choice over how they relinquish their embryos. A ’one size fits all’ model of embryo relinquishment, based on a medical model of disinterested donation could be restrictive, ’Options need to be explored that respect individuals ’reproductive goals and values.’’ As long as those options do not harm others, the principle of reproductive choice can be used to justify couples having options available to them that they find both morally and practically suitable.

Conditional embryo relinquishment: choosing to relinquish embryos for family-building through a Christian embryo 'adoption' programme.
BACKGROUND Currently, there is little evidence about conditional relinquishment of frozen embryos to others for family-building. This paper begins to address this gap by reporting findings from a study that investigated the experiences of couples who chose to relinquish their embryos conditionally through an embryo 'adoption' programme. METHODS An exploratory qualitative study was conducted b...
متن کاملI-24: Consents and Contracts for Embryo Cryopreservation
Background: Couples receiving IVF treatment may choose to have embryos frozen, with the aim of creating a pregnancy and ultimately a live birth in future. Problems can arise when couples separate. Under UK law, embryos can only be transferred with the consent of both genetic parents. The issue came to public prominence in the case of Natallie Evans, who lost the opportunity to have her own gene...
متن کاملI-21: Management of Endometrioma
Endometrioma is defined as an ovarian pseudocyst arising from growth of ectopic endometrial tissue, which progressively invaginates the ovarian cortex . Nearly17-44% of women with endometriosis also have endometriomas. Whereas detection of peritoneal endometriosis and adhesions typically requires laparoscopic assessment of the pelvis, endometriomas can be reliably diagnosed by transvaginal ultr...
متن کاملEquine assisted reproduction and embryo technologies
Assisted reproductive techniques in the horse have been only recently become available compared to other domestic species, in particular ruminants. The scarce availability of abattoir ovaries and the lack of interest from horse breeders and breed associations, and the anatomical and physiological differences have been the main reasons for this delay. Progressively though, the technology of oocy...
متن کاملI-9: Embryo Assessment and Selection
Over the years it has been an important goal to optimize the treatment of subfertility in order to obtain a better pregnancy rate and baby-take-home rate, usually combined with the goal of decreasing the rate of multiplet pregnancies. This implies optimizing the development of embryos through improved in vitro culture methods. And it also implies optimizing the methods of selection of embryos f...
