چکیده مقاله:

Density Current is formed when a fluid with heavier density than the surrounding fluid flows down an inclined bed. These types of flows are common in nature and can be produced by; salinity, temperature inhomogeneities, or suspended particles of silt and clay. Driven by the density difference between inflow and clear water in reservoirs, density current plunges clear water and moves towards a dam, while density current flows on a sloping bed. The vertical spreading due to water entrainment has an important role in determining the propagation rate in the longitudinal direction. In this work, two-dimensional steady-state salt solutions' density currents were investigated by means of experimental studies and data used in turn to verify the numerical model. In the laboratory experiments, the density current enters the channel via a sluice gate, into a lighter ambient fluid and it moves down-slope. Experiments were performed for different concentrations and discharges. Vertical velocity distributions were measured at various stations by Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV). Results showed a variety of phenomena depending strongly on the entrance buoyancy flux, and Richardson number. As the discharge increases, maximum velocity and current thickness increase as well, but when concentration decreases, the current thickness increases. In the numerical simulation, the governing equations were solved numerically and k-ω turbulence model was used for closure. The buoyancy term was implemented in the numerical model and its constant was calibrated by experiments. For verification, the height and velocity profiles of the dense layer were compared with the experimental data and a good agreement was found.

Vertical Density Currents-ii

Examples of vertical density currents wholly within the domain of laminar flow, one in a water solution, the other in air, have come to my attention. Both examples illustrate new ways of introducing and dispersing microscopic particles into static fluids and both demonstrate that a stable, clearly defined layer of dispersed particles forms first and that the vertical density currents originate ...

Hydrodynamics for granular flow at low density

The hydrodynamic equations for a gas of hard spheres with dissipative dynamics are derived from the Boltzmann equation. The heat and momentum fluxes are calculated to Navier-Stokes order and the transport coefficients are determined as explicit functions of the coefficient of restitution. The dispersion relations for the corresponding linearized equations are obtained and the stability of this ...

The study of water enterainment of plung region in density currents

The Study of river water quality interation with lakes and dam reservoirs is important from anexploitation point of view. When river water with different densities enters a lake or dam reservoir, underflow density current phenomenon occurs. Because of the density, so understandingdifferent arrays of this phenomenon Seems necessary for checking erosion and sedimentationprocesses and their managem...

CFD Hydrodynamics Analysis of Syngas Flow in Slurry Bubble Column

In this paper, a CFD model of syngas flow in slurry bubble column was developed. The model is based on an Eulerian-Eulerian approach and includes three phases: slurry of solid particles suspended in paraffin oil and syngas bubbles. Numerical calculations carried out for catalyst particles, bubble coalescence and breakup included bubble-fluid drag force and interfacial area effects. Also, the ef...
